Publisher's summary

Now from Brandon Webb, Navy SEAL sniper and New York Times best-selling author, comes his personal account of the eight friends and fellow SEALs who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"Knowing these great men - who they were, how they lived, and what they stood for - has changed my life. We can't let them be forgotten. So read about these amazing men, share their stories, and learn from them as I have. We've mourned their deaths. Let's celebrate their lives." (Brandon Webb)

As a Navy SEAL, Brandon Webb rose to the top of the world's most elite sniper corps, experiencing years of punishing training and combat missions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan. Among the best of the best, he led the SEALs' clandestine sniper training program as course manager, instructing a new generation of the world's top snipers. Along the way, Webb served beside, trained, and supported men he came to know not just as fellow warriors, but as friends and, eventually, as heroes. Among Heroes gives his personal account of these eight extraordinary SEALs who gave all for their comrades - and their country.

Here are the true stories behind the remarkable valor and abiding humanity of those "sheepdogs" (as they call themselves) who protect us from the wolves of the world. Of Matt "Axe" Axelson, who perished on the Lone Survivor mission in Afghanistan. Of Chris Campbell, Heath Robinson, and J. T. Tumilson, who were among the 38 casualties of Extortion 17, the Chinook helicopter shot down in August 2011. Of Glen Doherty, Webb's best friend for more than a decade, killed while helping secure the successful rescue and extraction of American CIA and State Department diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012; and other close friends, classmates, and fellow warriors.

Respect

I really don't have the words to describe the effect this book had on me. Brandon Webb's literally memorial to his fallen brothers is nothing short of inspiring. Mr. Webb's personal words to start each chapter are an amazing touch. It is no exaggeration to say; getting to know just a small piece of these heroes stories has caused me to examine how I go about my day to day life. I am a better man for having listened to this book. Thank you Brandon and thanks to all the sheep dogs who have been, and will be down range.

A solid book, but know what you are buying.

A solid book which reflects the impact fallen heroes had on the lives of the family, friends and the others. If you are looking for descriptive combat stories this book is not it nor intended. It is essentially a book about telling stories which brings out the personalized and impact of fallen Navy Seals. If you have read Lone Surivior, American Sniper, 13 Hours, and some of Webb's books than you will be familiar with the fallen he speaks of.

A MUST READ FOR ALL AMERICANS

Would you consider the audio edition of Among Heroes: A U.S. Navy SEAL's True Story of Friendship, Heroism, and the Ultimate Sacrifice to be better than the print version?

This is my second book that I've read...or listened too by Brandon Webb. The first one was The Red Circle. Among Heroes is a book that goes into details of the lives of Brandon's friends who made the ultimate sacrifice. I applaud Brandon for writing a book like this. All Americans should engage in learning about the men and women who have gone before us in defense of the very freedoms that we often take for granted on a daily basis.

A unique characteristic that sets Brandon's audio versions apart from others is Brandon uses his own voice at the beginning of each chapter to give a little bit of his own perspective or an insight of his own perception of what you're about to hear. It's a personal touch that makes the learning experience much more meaningful.

I encourage anyone who reads this to buy Brandon's book, Among Heroes and also, The Red Circle. I also encourage you to spread the word about these books. Just as Brandon and his teammates had a duty to serve, we as Americans have a duty to keep the legacies of our fallen heroes alive by spreading the word of their lives. It is our duty as Free Americans.

Thank you Brandon for writing these books. I'm already looking forward to your next one.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The personal touch that is included in this book by Brandon and others who were family members of the fallen heroes adds a more meaningful purpose to this book. An outstanding feature.

Favorite SEAL book yet

Both of his books are my personal favorites as far as spec ops and I have read all of them. If the author is reading this, I hope for your next book you can get into devgru and tell us some never before told stories of TEAM 6. Not bin laden!! But other bad a** stories of what they do or "are capable of doing!!" PLEASE! There isn't a single one YET! And I know the obvious reasons to the hatters of this comment." What do you say y'all??????

Among Heroes well told story of great men

As a member of the Sofrep mafia I have been getting to hear about this book as Brandon would share bits and pieces with his members of the sites club. I had been looking forward to it and was not disappointed at all. This was really awesome. My favorite thing that Brandon does with his audio books are his intros to each chapter. It really adds to the over all feeling of the books and gives it that extra thing that makes a good book great.

Highly recommended.

Good book and does a great job honoring our fallen heroes

The reasons I gave this book lower ratings is because I had just read the Red Circle by Brandon Webb and had heard most of these stories in that book and also some other great SPEC Ops authors. So it was a little redundant but the stories were still great and hit the mark for its intended purpose. I am a fan. I am also inspired to give to the Red Circle Foundation as well as other worthy and reputable non profits that care for our heroes and their families. To the authors point make sure you study where your money goes.

Hey everybody, look how great I am!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Low effort storytelling, minimal editing, weak buddy stories used as the cracker to carry a full load of boasting and claims of taking the high road ... when the author wasn't running other people down. Not an effort worthy of the names and organizations the author leverages for credibility.

Mixed feelings about this one

This book is an inspiring collection of personal stories about fallen heroes, told from the perspective of friends and family members. I felt honored to have a small glimpse into the personal lives of the heroes who defend me as I work and sleep. The comments from actual family members of the fallen were truly touching and brought the authenticity of this book to a higher level.

I did not, however, appreciate the references to sheep, sheep dogs, and wolves. The special forces operators refer to themselves as sheep dogs, the bad guys are the wolves, and the rest of us are the sheep. The implication being that average American citizens are helpless, ignorant, and oblivious to danger. Being referred to as a sheep actually negated some of the pride and respect I had initially felt toward the author of this book and others like him. I may not be able to do what they do, but I have other valuable contributions to society and I would remind Mr. Webb and his compatriots that I actually pay their salary.

My only other real objection to the enjoyment of this book was the narrator. First of all, there was an annoying tinny echo, as if the recording was made in someone's garage instead of a soundproofed studio. Second, he really failed to put the appropriate inflection and emphasis into his reading. When speaking of something devastating and tragic, he would have a peppy upbeat tone to his voice. That was extremely annoying. When I listen to an audiobook, I am not so much looking for someone to read me the words off the page as I am expecting an auditory "movie" experience in my mind. That requires an actor who can emote with his voice, which did not happen for me with this particular narrator.

Overall not a bad book, and the personal contributions of family members really brought it to life for me

More of the Same

This is a sequel to a sequel. These stories have all been told before. Nothing exciting here.
