Publisher's summary

Find All Things Bright and Beautiful: The Warm and Joyful Memoirs of the World's Most Beloved Animal Doctor, read by Nicholas Ralph, star of the new PBS Masterpiece series, on Audible.

James Herriot has now become firmly established and accepted as one of Darrowby's veterinarians. He's also married, and lives with his wife Helen on the top floor of Skeldale House. His former boss, now partner, Siegfried, lives downstairs with Siegfried's brother Tristan.

Herriot continues the rich and rewarding day-to-day life of a small-town veterinarian, and we journey with him across the dales, meeting a whole new cast of unforgettable characters - humans, dogs, horses, lambs, parakeets - all of them drawn with the same infinite fascination, affection and insight that made James Herriot one of the most beloved authors of our time. And all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot: Christopher Timothy.

Irresistible: Best to listen at Bedtime

These books have a magic calm, joy and innocence. Christopher Timothy’s masterful performance captures all of this with flawless ease. I love to listen to them as I get ready for bed and a calm elixir infuses me washing out the hectic hours that preceded. Enjoy!

Deserves much better audio

This beautiful book deserves a quality recording and this isn't it. Christopher Timothy is a great choice as narrator, but mispronunciations of terms common to a vet (like bacillus and dachshund) repeatedly remind the listener that Timothy only played a vet on TV. Even worse, volume control is inconsistent, there are multiple repeats in the recording, and the musical additions are distracting and sometimes cover the narrator

It only gets better when you read/listen Again!

Most true Herriot fan's will recall Christopher Timothy portraying James Herriot (the true-life Alf Wight) in the movies and series "All Creatures Great and Small". This, however, is a different experience. I found Timothy to be a bit harsher than I pictured Herriot on the series--even spoken as a devoted fan. In this audio format he does an amazing job on the unabridged version. His acting ability really shines here. His voices and accent range are amazing. If you need an escape and want to feel good, then go back to 1930's Yorkshire and re-live the early days of vet practice. Whether you are an animal lover or just need the relief of a book that will make you laugh and bring the beautiful moors to life, you'll never regret the James Herriot series. Christopher Timothy deserves an award for this one! Fantastic job!

Perfection!!!!

This book, as well as other titles in the same series, is fabulous!!!! Listening is pure joy! Christopher Timothy is unequalled in his ability to make a story come alive. And Herriot's stories themselves are enthralling. I will listen to and love this book again...and again....and again...Get the idea?!!!

Background voice mars wonderful book

I love this series of books and the actor’s reading of it. But for this one I’m noticing a background voice. At first I thought it was my Bluetooth devices picking up another signal, but I also hear it when it is just coming out of my phone’s speakers. It’s not quite an echo but and underlying reading of something else. Annoying as heck.

Great story and narration.

I gave only 4/5 stars as some low -toned voices in the background were audible. Also, one time the sentence was not completed.

Just as Good as I Remembered!

It’s been 40+ years since I was introduced to James Herriot. Back then, it was in paperback, and I enjoyed it immensely. Now, hearing the narrator’s accentuated language brings the stories to life even more! Highly recommended!

Great story, music and chapter breaks annoying.

Love all the James Herriot books but the music and odd chapter breaks really ruin the continuity.

Another good book by James Herriot

The stories continues of James Herriot in the Dales. His adventures and challenges of being a small town country veterinarian in pre-world war II Northern England.

Perfect!

I loved this book when I first read it many years ago. Great stories about animals and people and an older way of life. I loved the TV adaptation just as much and now I love the audiobook. The narrator is the actor who played the author in the TV version but in this audiobook he shows that he can handle all the different voices and accents wonderfully.
