Publisher's Summary

The man who invented shock rock tells the amazing and, yeah, shocking story of how he slayed his thirsty demons with a golf club. It started one day when Cooper was watching a Star Trek rerun between concerts, bored and drunk on a quart-of-whiskey-a-day habit. A friend dragged the rocker out of his room and suggested a round of golf. Cooper has been a self-confessed golf addict ever since.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is Cooper's tell-all memoir. In it, he talks candidly about his entire life and career, as well as his struggles with alcohol, how he fell in love with the game of golf, how he dried out at a sanitarium back in the late '70s, and how he put the last nails in his addiction's coffin by getting up daily at 7 a.m. to play 36 holes.

This is the story of Cooper's life, and also a story about golf. He rose from hacker to scratch golfer to serious Pro Am competitor and on to his status today as one of the best celebrity golfers around - all while rising through the rock 'n' roll ranks, releasing platinum albums and selling out arenas with his legendary act.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is an unlikely and captivating tale full of wretched excess, life-saving redemption, ghoulish eye makeup, power chords, and five irons to the center of the green.

"What a blast from the past, and such insight to the future! Alice Cooper, Golf Monster shares Alice's personal life mission, interwoven with great stories and characters from the 60s through the present in rock and roll. Pretty Good, Even Though it is Abridged

I was a little disappointed because I did not realize the audiobook was abridged. However the book was enjoyable, even though I am not a golfer. I am guessing being a hardcore Alice Cooper fan as well as an avid golfer is a rare demographic. But the golf stories did keep my interest. Also, I believe many of Alice's stories are not entirely accurate, for example, the chicken incident or the breakup of the original band. If you want more accurate Alice Cooper stories, read or listen to the original Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway's book.

Awesome

If your an Alice fan, you won't want to go past this awesome behind the scenes look into his life, and what makes it even better is Alice himself reads this :D His sense of humor is apparent and I would recommend this to everyone (yes, even non-Alice fans) as you get a true understanding of what makes this man tick! Well written, awesomely read, a master piece for sure!

cool story

I knew Alice Cooper is a big golfer, and obviously he’s a massive name in Rock & Roll, so the story - and the way he intertwined these two lives - was truly enjoyable.

I only wish the book was longer

if you like rock and roll and golf and can't get enough of either one then this book is absolutely perfect and only could be better if it was a little bit longer.

Very Enjoyable

This was an extremely entertaining book and I especially appreciated that it was narrated by Alice Cooper. I just wish it had been the full book instead of abridged.

Inspiring

What does Alice Cooper bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoy listening to people's life stories as they tell them. This was no exception. I smiled and laughed more because I could hear his passion and his recollection come through the narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Later in the book when Alice talks about his Christian walk, it was incredible. He's got so many diverse aspects of his personality and it moved me quite deeply to know that he and I share a faith. It explains why throughout my own walk I haven't felt the need to disregard his music and still find myself attending his concerts. Alice is a good man, a good husband, and a good father and I love that he made a huge positive out of his previously negative choices!

Alice reads Alice - How can you go wrong?

What three words best describe Alice Cooper’s voice?

Alice is a slice of fallen heaven.

Any additional comments?

Alice is probably one of the worst narrators ever. His reading is just terrible. With that said, I loved every word. I liken Alice's reading of this book to his vocals on his albums. He's not a great singer with an amazing voice, but his voice is perfect for his music and NO ONE else could do the same justice to songs like I Love The Dead and Dead Babies or Halo of Flies, et al. Likewise, he couldn't have read it more perfectly.

Despite his narration, this book is awesome. I love that it's him telling his story and not some other reader putting his own inflections and "acting" into the book. I would recommend this to any Alice fan.

Golf School's Out

This is an entertaining account of Alice Cooper's rock career and golf addiction, and makes for very easy listening. Narrated by the man himself, I'd reckon thirty percent of the book is about golf and seventy about his career, although if I was being harsh I'd say it's hard to tell which he boasts most about! You might pick up some golf tips, you'll definately pick up some good stories and you'll listen to the end, which is about all you want from an audiobook.

A good listen

As audiobooks get more and more popular as we're always on the move, Alice Cooper's 'The Golf Monster' is well worth 4 hours of your listening time. Read by the man himself, 'The Golf Monster' is a 12 chapter autobiography themed around how Alice's golf 'addiction' helped turn his life around (with each chapter intro explaining how to improve your golf game). Even if you're not interested in golf, Alice's life story is a fascinating listen as he overcomes adversity, becomes a superstar, battles through alcoholism and retains a bright outlook on life the whole way through. Alice is immensely likeable, interesting and never feels sorry for himself as he talks through the highs and lows of a fantastic career with an optimism and sense of humour. He's a real eccentric and he's quite inspiring as well. This book was written in 2007 but as any Alice fan will know he's still as sharp as ever these days, touring 'Paranormal' in 2017 and 2018, one of his best albums for decades. Thanks Audible for contiuing to stock more and more different books like these and not just the bestsellers you see at WHSmiths in train stations.

Not your average golfer

This is a fascinating autobiography about someone who took the show in music to a different level. As an outlet for his giving up alcoholism he took to golf. There are plenty of interesting stories of the rock lifestyle mixed with the odd anecdote on golf.
Highly entertaining and different to your average autobiography.

golf not your bag?

I wasnt too sure about this book as its about golf, but it is brilliantly narrated by the man himself, with a lot of humour, and the comparisons to his life are amazing. I would recomend this book to anyone who A) likes Alice Cooper or B) likes golf. When I started listening I could'nt stop. Fantastic ,Brilliant, All Of the Above!!!!!

Good in parts

The story of his beginnings is interesting and gives an insight into how he is an amazing opportunist but strangely this book gets really boring when he starts talking about Golf. I felt it deliciously ironic that reading it himself gives insight into what a manufactured commodity "Alice Cooper" really is and the oppotunism rather than passion behind it -couldn't really recommend it.

I wish I could take up golf

Would you consider the audio edition of Alice Cooper, Golf Monster to be better than the print version?

I feel so much closer to Alice Cooper than I thought possible. This is a great story for all those 'functional alcoholics' out there, including me

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alice meets John Daley

What about Alice Cooper’s performance did you like?

everything about the poorly disguised golf product promos... A bit gratuitous towards the end.
