Editorial reviews

Any pet lover will find much to relate to in this heartwarming memoir about the trials and tribulations - alongside the joys and rewards - of giving so much love to a creature bound by nature to roam, explore, and sometimes even run totally free.

Voice actor Sean Pratt’s performance of Peter Martin’s A Dog Called Perth: The True Story of a Beagle is pitch perfect, and his slightly weathered voice is especially effective during some of the audiobook’s more harrowing adventures. Martin’s beloved beagle Perth is a lively dog who certainly keeps her family on their toes, and her escapades may have listeners reaching for their own furry friends, if only to say, warningly, “You’d better never!”

Publisher's summary

From the instant they spotted the forlorn puppy in the kennel, as she stared at them with her intense eyes, Cindy and Peter Martin knew she was the one for them. Almost immediately, Perth became a central part of the household, a dog for all dogs. Always left to run free, Perth became an indefatigable explorer, often gone for hours or entire days, but her infallible compass always brought her back home. From her adoption in upstate New York, her incredible survival in the wilderness of Vermont to her later adventures in the English countryside, Perth displayed the same devotion, unshakable trust, and unstinting love. An entertaining, beautifully written homage to a very special dog.

Love for a beagle

I also raised and loved a beagle and can relate. Nice story about welcoming an intelligent hound into a busy young family. A story well told.

A great story

It was a great story about a beagle. it made me cry a few times and even angry at the owners a few times. It's a great story, I definitely recommend it. There is a great description of scenes and characters;it definitely awoke my imagination. There wasn't as much detail as I wanted and the ending, but overall a really good story. I can definitely agree with the narrator that this was a very very special dog. The great description of all the places that were traveled in the story really make me want to travel to these places too; I think it really is just the narrators great description. definitely worth my time.
