Publisher's summary

Brynn:

What happens when you're instantly drawn and inexplicably attracted to a man you haven't really met? Me? Well, I left a party like my butt was on fire when it happened to me. Arrogant, wealthy, and physically perfect men were nothing but trouble, even if I was mesmerized by a man with all of those attributes.

Unfortunately, we met again - in person this time - when I literally collided with Carter Lawson in the flesh several days later and discovered he was a man I just couldn't stay away from, no matter how much I tried.

He felt the same attraction and was determined to make it impossible for me not to see him. My body craved him, and as I got to know the real man behind the jaded billionaire/womanizer facade, I was surprised to discover that I actually liked him. He's the quintessential alpha male I normally hate, but there's something I see in him that nobody else does, a pain I recognize in his glacier-like eyes - because I'm just like him. Both of us are frauds.

I want to crack him like an egg and see what's inside, but there's no way I want him to do the same thing to me. On the surface, I'm a successful supermodel with a great career. Inside, I'm someone else, a woman that nobody sees - until Carter slowly breaks through my defensive walls as well as he satisfies my body, starting to open wounds that have never really healed.

But there's only so much I can let Carter see. Revealing everything could ruin my entire life and the career I'd worked so hard to build. So why was it so hard to lie to Carter like I'd been doing with everyone else my entire life?

Carter & Brynn – Business Genius & The Supermodel!

Carter & Brynn – The Business Genius & The Supermodel – Are Neither One Looking For Love In This Sweet & Angsty Slow Burn About Secrets, Trust, & Guilt.

This is the thirteenth book in The Billionaire’s Obsession series. Each book in the series reads perfectly as a standalone. Books one through five are centered around Tampa, Florida. Book six is a bridge between The Sinclairs series and this series, but it also shifts the series to Colorado. The series continues in Colorado with the Colter family, whose five children comprise books seven through eleven. In books nine and ten, the Colter twins marry the Lawson sisters. After, the series continues on with the three Lawson brothers. This is Carter Lawson and

This is Jett Lawson and Ruby Kent’s story. Jett is Marcus Colter’s best friend, and his story is hinted at in book ten, Marcus’s story. Ruby is introduced there as well as Danica befriends and tries to save her.

The Lawson kids, like their friends the Colters, are well-known for their good looks, genius IQ’s, and billionaire status. Their parents were killed about eight years ago in an accident. That tragedy triggered some changes for the family. While they all inherited enough to be independently wealthy, each was committed to work. None wanted to hold onto the family home in Colorado, finding it too emotional, so they all left Colorado. Harper and Danica, the youngest, traveled extensively for work and didn’t have much of a home to speak of. The brothers, however, took the opportunity to move their Father’s up-and-coming business, Lawson Technologies, to Seattle – a more appropriate location for their business – where it shot to success. Each brother heads his own division within the company, but they are partners of the entirety. Harper and Danica have recently married the Colter twins and have settled down in Rocky Springs, Colorado.

Blake Colter and Harper Lawson’s story in Billionaire Unknown, book ten, is a tender and emotional story about second chances in love and life after confusion tears them apart for twelve years.

In Billionaire Unveiled, book eleven, Marcus Colter and Danica Lawson finally find love after years of animosity as they crisscrossed repeatedly overseas.

Jett and Ruby are each lost in self doubt when Danica arranges to have Jett rescue Ruby from a human trafficking ring in book twelve, Billionaire Unloved.

In this book:

This book opens roughly six months so after Jett and Ruby meet in book twelve, Billionaire Unloved. Ruby is still twenty-three, and the couple has been engaged for months.

Carter Lawson, thirty-two, is the marketing guru behind Lawson Technologies. Unlike his brothers, his role is very public. His magnetic personality is perfectly suited to the media attention. He is often the subject of gossip magazines and is known for leading the playboy lifestyle. But it is more complicated than the gossip rags might portray. Carter feels deeply when he fails those around him, and Jett’s accident several years ago wasn’t the first time he felt guilty about someone else’s misfortune. But Jett’s accident had triggered a downward spiral that had everyone concurring what he jerk he was.

Brynn Davis, twenty-nine, is winding down her career as a supermodel. While she still lands some lucrative modelling gigs, she is done abusing her body to maintain the perfect size. She is happily a size six. She was lucky to maintain her success, though. She uses her big platform for promoting a healthier image. Her supermodel best friend Laura Hastings is turning thirty-four and has nearly put her modelling days behind. She shares the same passion about healthier body images for women, and has turned that passion into a clothing line and boutique. She chose to settle in Seattle, and Brynn has invested and followed her friend to the city that already feels like home to her.

When Carter and Brynn see one another at a fundraiser from across a crowded room, their connection is instant. Carter didn’t believe he would ever find love, but couldn’t help but believe it was fate at play. Brynn has a secret past that has shattered her ability to trust. She knows how to put on a pubic façade and play her role on the job. Despite Carter’s ability to command the room, she recognizes the hint of a kindred spirit in him. Brynn detects that he also dons a façade, and that underneath the image is a man much deeper than he lets on.

Carter and Brynn’s story is a sweet and angsty slow burn about secrets, trust, and guilt. The business genius and the supermodel are neither one looking for love, but love finds them nevertheless. Carter’s evolution is the story is adorable – but his elevator scene is intense! Brynn has to deal with her past if she has any hope of planning for a future. She makes a mistake that is very real and relatable, but learns a valuable life lesson. She and Carter are well-matched – both career-minded public figures – and together they earn their tearfully happy ending. Mason and Laura’s story, the next book in the series, gets a sneak peak within this book.

For those that pay attention to detail, there are some discrepancies with the childrens’ ages from one book to another. According to earlier books, Danica, thirty, is the youngest in the Lawson family. Her sister Harper is thirty-one. Their three older brothers include Mason, Jett, and Carter (oldest to youngest). In this book Jett is the youngest brother and turned thirty-one the month before the opening, which does not add up since his younger sister Harper is already thirty-one. Carter comes next in age at thirty-two, and Mason follows at thirty-four.

Carter and Brynn’s romance is well-written. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are complex and well-developed given the length. The story is written in third person. The POV alternates between Carter and Brynn, with one chapter in Laura’s POV. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

As for the Audio: it is very well-performed and consistent with the book.

Such a great romance!

Carter's book is number 13 in the series, and each book gets better and better. J.S. Scott gives us sexual tension, secrets, misunderstandings and a HEA. Just a great romance. Elizabeth always does a fantastic job with the narration.

Enjoyed

With Carter and Brynn, you could sense the sexual tension building. I liked that there was a point with them where it was clear the relationship went beyond the physical.

I was really kind of irritated by Brynn's trust issues until I found out why. I could completely understand why she didn't trust her own judgement. Both Carter and Brynn had issues that revolved around interesting little twists in the story.

One thing that really bothers me in books is the mix ups due to lack of communication. Carter and Brynn had it in spades. I do have to give Brynn credit, she stepped up her game and got then to their HEA. I would give them 3.5 stars.

I listened to the audio book. I thought the narration was ok, but I am pretty sure I would have enjoyed it more if there had been a male narrator voicing Carter, Jett, and Mason.

Carter and Brynn

Another top notch J.S. Scott billionaire story. I love that they are on audible escape and can now devour the stories while multitasking.

Good Book

Good addition to the series. Why do we have to use at least fifteen words, when just a couple will do?

voices. A much better read when Elizabeths voice

Dramatic effect would magnified, in positive way, by adding a male to voice the male charachters. Elizabeth is FANTASTIC but the deeper base range is only obtainable by a man;doing so brings a "real life" quality to the story. That aside, this series is fantastic.
