Caleb Mercer, the best mountain rescue specialist in the Cascades, knows some calls are a death sentence. When a lone hiker vanishes on Mount Hood just as the storm of the century is about to hit, Caleb’s gut tells him to stay home. He’s already brought one ghost down from that mountain, and he has no desire to create another.

But when the sheriff pleads for his help, Caleb assembles a small, desperate team for a rescue that’s already a suicide mission. The brutal, unnatural storm is the least of their worries. As they ascend, they find signs that something else is using the blizzard as a cloak. Claw marks too high on the trees, a bloodcurdling howl that is not from any known animal, and the chilling realization that they are being herded.

Trapped by an avalanche and cut off from the world, the team is forced into a desperate descent through a dark ravine. They are not just being hunted; they are being studied by a predator of impossible intelligence, one that can mimic their voices and anticipate their every move. In a place where man is no longer the apex predator, survival is not guaranteed.

Great Story

This tale will keep ones interest. I love how the story stays a step ahead of what one might think will happen next. Grat listen.

Whew! That was a scary one!

Many times these pulp-action-monster books can go off track either way. It could go off and be stuck in characters fighting till you WANT the monster to kill them. Other times the characters are fine but the story seems like it’s aiming for some weird kind of super gory snuff film theme. Both of these I dislike. So, since I liked this one, ( even though it got close to the point of no return many times ) doesn’t go off track in either direction…. I think.
