Publisher's summary

A life unlived. An incredible power. A world on the brink of war....

Chima is an outcast among outcasts. He's on the verge of giving up on life entirely when he encounters the sacred Biafran lion. Gifted with an incredible power and introduced to a world beyond belief, Chima thinks his life may finally be turning around.

When a rival nation kidnaps Chima's father, his world is shattered. To save his family and the Biafran people, he must learn to believe in himself and his newfound power. As he fights back against a secret weapon, he wonders if his efforts to protect his adopted home could doom them all.

Biafra and the Werelion King is a steampunk paranormal fantasy story. If you like innovative magic systems, richly detailed worlds, and fantasy tales without werewolves or Tolkien characters, then you'll love Carl Waters' fascinating tale based on the Nigerian Civil War and the Igbo people.

Wonderful Read

I was so enthralled...I can hardly wait for the rest of the Biafra Land series...where’s Book 2.

Phenomenal Book

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I've been reflecting a lot about African history recently and although this book is fictional, I've learned historical facts during my listening.
As the father of a child with a disability, the "Ozu" people resonated with me deeply. "The first shall be last and the last shall be first".
Carl Waters is a gifted writer. His ability to fictionalize painful history to enlighten his audience is admirable. I will have my children read his books when they're older. I look forward to the sequel. Would love to see this book as a motion picture.

Five stars

This story was a lot more than I expected so it took me a while to get to the book but I enjoyed the story.

Epic

Loved the story and the setting of the story … cast systems and a hero not looked for with a uniquely African animist mythology tied in …I need more now
