• The Art of Pretending: Tess finds out that someone is stealing her money. She suspects Frankie, a woman who reminds her of Luke. But nothing is as it seems.
• The Christmas Oak: Luke sets out to bring home a Christmas tree-but she finds something else.
• Swept Away: The greatest flood in the history of Oregon sweeps away houses, barns, and animals in the Willamette Valley. At the same time, fourteen-year-old Amy is swept away by her feelings for her best friend.

Women in hiding

Back in those days, I would have done the same and become a Luke to survive instead of working in a brothel, as most girls and women lacked choices. Luke was lucky to find Nora and her daughters and live like a man with a wife in all ways, and raised the children together. Amy and Nettie only knew Luke as Papa.

Tess was a madam, but hid that she owned half the town, by having all titles in a man's name. A partner she trusted stole from her, but a female Pinkerton who dressed as both main and female helped Tess out in a few ways.
