From Darwin to DevOps

Thanks to Gene Kim and John Willis for the excellent overview "From Darwin to DevOps"! Just finished my first listen. Now to read the mountain of wonderful references I haven't read yet. Sign of a great book is one that leads to your next book... or twenty

Great book, some delivery issues

The book is brilliant. It weaves together so many disciplines and a lot of issue back history creating a very compelling narrative. I learned a lot and will likely listen to it many more times. There were some delivery issues, mainly Gene Kim's voice trailing off or him turning away from the microphone, so I'm really glad I got the transcript as well.

Should be Required Listening for all IT Pros

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this audiobook to everyone I know in the IT business. It provides the intellectual underpinnings for the maturation of IT from craft to industrial strength quality and cost effectiveness - a major constraint on the world's economy and the welfare of all humankind.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It is hard to answer why any of the great minds that Gene and John talk about is my favorite. I have a bias to those I already know and now want to learn more about those I have learned about in this audio book.

What about Gene Kim and John Willis ’s performance did you like?

Their sharp wit, examples, and metaphors. Kudos to the editors!!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

While this geeky material should not be an emotional topic - I found many of the learnings - especially the roots of behaviors and willingness to change intellectually and motivationally stimulating.

Any additional comments?

As an android user, the Audible version is much easier to navigate than the iTunes version.

not really a book, just a conversation better suit

This is a series of conversations between two people. This is not a book. A more accurate description would be a podcast. not worth the price. would return if I could.

the history of devops

so many executives looking for silver bullets and so many used car salesmen turned software salesmen looking to benefit from those silver bullet dreams. If we all knew and understood the history and why the practices of DevOps work and how they came to be we would be realizing all of the transformative promise that comes from DevOps and agile

Excellent follow-up the The Phoenix Project

The audible book was amazing as it has the live discussions and stories told by the authors, Gene Kim and John Willis. The stories and history were so valuable and they tied everything back to "The Phoenix Project" and the "DevOps Handbook. I will be listening to this again in once I finish the DevOps Handbook.

starting an IT Revolution

this work serves well to crystalize the resources and thoughts that came together into what is now termed DEVOPS. At least in what the thought leaders intend DEVOPS to be. important work for those in search of deeper understanding.
