Publisher's summary

The Ocean Waves Tiki Bar in Fort Lauderdale is surrounded by a cast of characters—salty locals and tourists from around the world. Doctor Bee just bought the house another round.

The Captain is spilling another story of his younger days with Marilyn Monroe. Sun worshippers glisten on the beach as boats anchor just off shore; their occupants swim in to sip on margaritas and rum runners and soak up the atmosphere. The bartender looks delicious in her bikini top, and land sharks are starting to circle. It's another day in paradise at the Ocean Waves.

But how in the world will shy, introverted Tim ever get a shot at that good-looking bartender? It will take a miracle, or at least an act of God, like a hurricane, to get them together, and advice from the Captain, with a story or two about Marilyn Monroe to help him understand women, and a friend like Dan Poe, to lean on, to cry on his shoulder, and to teach him about love and loss.

Friendships, Loss and Courage To Believe In Yourself

The writer did an amazing job developing the main characters bonds with one another. This then allowed the reader to experience so many feelings throughout the book as they each went through so many highs and lows. As the main character Tim Brown searches for purpose and the best path for himself the reader ends up rooting for Tim, sad for Tim and frustrated to the point of even being mad at Tim. It’s hard not to get completely tangled up in different emotions as you read how Tim takes on the challenges of trying to win the approval of his forever girl, the loss of a friend, his constant self doubt and his self sabotage of drinking. Each chapter in the book will take you to a new set of feelings that keeps you wanting more. Then finally the book provides a sense of satisfaction as if the reader themselves has also gone beyond the ocean waves. I was inspired to be a better friend, continue to grow as a person and never give up when there are setbacks in life.
