Beyond Strange Lands is an action-packed and fantastical multicast audio drama that journeys across the Australian outback.

In 1982, the famous paranormal expert Grant Peters went missing while filming his TV show Legendary Australia. His wife, Melissa, was never able to find him. When Melissa herself disappears nearly 40 years later, her daughter, Fiona, and grandson Ethan trace her to the small outback town of Boulia. There they discover a collection of old audio tapes that Melissa left behind: a set of clues they must follow if they’re to solve this mystery in time. Insidious forces will stop at nothing to destroy them, and an impossibly ancient menace lurks deep beneath the ground, waiting for the chance to strike....

Yipes...

The story is extremely hard to follow because the performance quality is spotty. Hard to follow who is speaking since character voices aren't always easily distinguishable and "FX" overwhelm voices throughout. While the narrative recommends earphones, the erratic sound levels require frequent adjustment to hear the voices and then you get your ear drums blown out in the next second....

Sorry, not for me!

I always listen to audible with headphones. This podcast had so much background noise that it was difficult for me to understand the dialogue. I couldn't get Beyond chapter 2.

Wear headphones!

This is book was a lot of fun. My grandparents lived in Australia for years and my grandmother would have loved this. Having grown up on creepy Old Time Radio (my grandparents influence) this was perfect.
PS thanks so much Audible. This month’s selection was superb. Especially this and Forget Nothing. Keep up the good work.

Too Difficult to listen to.

I tried over and over to listen to this book. The audio was too sporadically soft or loud. I’m sorry I didn’t have the patience to keep listening.

Great with headphones - a fun sci fi adventure!

This reminded me of a kind of Aussie style Stranger Things. The binaural recording technique was great with headphones! Good performances. A romping paranormal mystery.

Recording Error

Decent book. Good enough acting....but the quality of the recording had serious issues. Seemed like one mic was barely working causing an echo and low volume for almost half of the cast. The other half were loud and clear. The technical issues made it difficult to listen to without head phones.

Worse than bad

Unintelligible, until I turned out the lights, what ever it was; it did not work!

fun

The series is broken into short vignettes. This podcast, in the vein of a radio play, is about a family involved in investigating the paranormal. It takes place in Australia's Outback, and involves some unusual creatures. The performances are good and the sound effects add to it's creepiness. This AO is a winner.

Decent, odd.

I enjoyed it overall. Story is hard to understand when chatacters talk over the recordings. Requires attention. Some scenes are typical/eye rolling.

Sound volume too low much of the time.

Good performances and story.

Similar to another audible production like this the background sounds muddied the voices. That wouldn't have been too bad, but the overall maximum volume was so low I had to use an external amplifier to understand some of the dialog. I know some of this is my own hearing impairment but I don't have similar problems with most audio books. Do far it only happens with Audible Originals production that include background sounds to create "environment”
