A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body.
As Jin, I’m a man of the earth. A wielder of shovels and lord of rice and wheat. And sure, I also had to die and get pulled into another universe to end up here. But guess what? I’m starting to think it was worth it.
I’ve somehow managed to get away from it all. Finally free of the bloodshed of cultivator fights, I figure I’ll live in the slow lane from here on out, my only real concern the rain—or lack thereof.
Unfortunately, I’ve suddenly got a shady organization looking for me, my cat has gone off to fight in a martial arts tournament, and my chicken has uncovered an ancient crystal containing portents of doom. You know, the usual stuff.
I’m not worried though. Sometimes trouble finds you. And while I may not be a master cultivator . . . trouble should know better than to mess with a farmer.

This series is one of my absolute favorites. Most cultivator novels are all about the fighting and the techniques but the way this book focuses on connections and relationships is always a welcome surprise. The way Rou Jin is handled as a protagonist continues to be excellent and the relationship between Jin Rou and Rou Jin is handled well.
I've both read on Kindle and listened on Audible and the narrator always does an excellent job with pacing and tone. The way they manage to insert pauses, add expression, and make such a large cast feel memorable and unique is never lost on me. Travis Baldree is a stand out in his field and everything he narrates is taken to the next level.
Wonderfully unique story elevated by Travis Baldree's excellent narration.

As for the world, the exploration wasn't as heavy as book 2, but book 2 paid itself off in this one, and this book jumped into different facets of the world, growing it in scope and in... seriousness? There's a word I'm just forgetting that works better here, sorry.
Regardless, great character, interesting and engaging worls building, and just a lot of fun to read as you're invested in the characters and their fates.
