Between the Shores

I really enjoyed the audio version Between the Shadows, the third installment from Casi McLean’s series, Lake Lanier Mysteries. Kristin James did a fantastic performance while narrating this story. There was a lot of it that I love to read, action, adventure, romance and history. It was a perfect mix for me.

I am giving Between the Shadows five plus stars. It was my favorite of the series. I would love to read more by this author in the near future.

I received the audio version of this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Fascinating from the very start

Wow what an interesting book this is. I love time travel and this was better then most. Not reading/listening to the first two did make it a tad confusing in the beginning so if you are in to time travel I would pick up at least the first one as I have no doubt you will be back for this one. For example it took me half the book to figure out if York was from the past or the future, it didn’t matter which it was as it makes no difference in the book I am just one of those readers who wants all the answers. Anyway. I loved the storyline, I can’t wait to get the first two books and meet Sandy and to find out York’s story. The ending was PERFECT! Definitely recommend

Great Book

This book is a awesome roller coaster through time. I absolutely love the time travel box. I feel like there is not enough out there. This take on time travel is very unique to anything that I’ve ever read before. The author weaves a tale where it is seamless and you don’t have an issue following the different timelines. You really feel like you are in each time zone. Your work is probably one of my favorite main characters and McKenzie are just amazing.

This is the first book that I’ve heard Kristen James narrator and I think she did an absolutely phenomenal job. There were characters in the book that had different accents and to me they did not sound fake at all. Her pace and tone overall it was very consistent which for me is important because a narrator can really make or break and audiobook and I had no issue listening to her at all.

The production of the audiobook is the way they sound was really consistent. There was no back noise from what I could hear.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Casi McLean. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Return to the time following the Civil War

The author gave me copies of the first 2 books in this series to review and I loved them so much that I bought the 3rd one as soon as I finished the 2nd one. This time we meet Drew's daughter McKenzie and York, a visitor from the future. They go back to 1865 Georgia to find an injured girl who had appeared to York. Things don't go quite as planned, adding a wrinkle to the story. I love this time period and was totally involved in this mystery. It was a very satisfying story. If it is the end of the series, it was a fitting ending. But I enjoyed it so much I hope it is not the end.

Beautiful Story

Circumstances pulled York a hundred years into the past. As he learns to adapt to his new surroundings, he begins to accept that he never truly belonged into his own time. Just as he thinks that he can finally accept where he is, he stumbles upon a woman in trouble. A woman who came directly from the 1860s.

I really did enjoy this book very much. I do feel like it could have used a bit of work. Compared to the first two books, it fell a bit flat. I hate saying that. It's not a horrible book at all. It could have just used a bit of flair and something. I can't quite explain what it's missing. I guess a bit of suspense in a few places. I'm probably just being a snob. I will state that there are a few triggering parts of the book. They are brief.

I really can't say that I felt a connection to either of the main characters. I did empathize with their predicament. I think the one I felt most connected to was the granddaughter. She was strong and fierce and knew what she wanted out of life. She also made it her mission to try to help people live as long as they possibly could. She knows death is inevitable for all of us, but she strives to push it off as far as possible for most. That's why she became a doctor.

This book was narrated by Kristin James. I really enjoyed the narration. Her transition was very smooth. I don't believe she stumbled over anything or left anything out. I also loved how distinct she was with all of the characters. She didn't narrate the first two books. I believe each book had a different narrator. I can understand why. They all had different main characters as well.

I really did enjoy this book. I didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first two. I just felt something major was missing. I felt it could have used a bit more suspense and build up. I'm pretty sure that most of the feelings I have are personal. I'm not sure if anybody will have the same opinion as me. Despite my misgivings of what's missing, it really is a wonderful book and well worth the read.

A really good listen

I enjoyed listening to this story. I have not read or listened to this author before but I would love to read or listen to her other books. I liked the plot and feel that it moved along at a steady pace. There were things I questioned but not so much that it took away from the story at all. I liked how everything comes together and thought it was a great story. I liked the characters and their love interests. I thought they were matched up pretty well. I enjoyed listening to the narrator as well. She had a an easy and pleasant voice to listen to. She read at a good pace and was easy to understand. I would definitely listen to another books she reads. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, time travel, and a overall great story.

Time travel 1865/2018

If you like time travel romantic suspense, don't miss this one! I haven't read the other books in this series, but was not lost. I felt the first third of this book was slow. But I realize it all needed to be set up and laid out. When the action finally started, Wow! It didn't let up. Exciting. Complicated. Back and forth in history. Then, the ending......so nice and all put together!
I was gifted an Audible version by the author through Story Origin. The narrator was so believable with different voices for each character. Excellent job.
