Publisher's summary

Two childhood friends from Scotland and two illegitimate half-brothers from the deep South suffer and enjoy all manner of bizarre adventures that, it turns out, are somehow interconnected and, even more surprisingly, meaningful.

The eclectic cast of characters features Socrates, Carl Jung, and Tony Randall, along with an ex-television evangelist with a penchant for booze, prostitutes, and uncomfortable knitwear who gets mugged in Miami by an almost pure-blooded Watusi warrior - and sets off on a road trip in a stolen motor home.

Classic Ferguson - at his best

Would you listen to Between the Bridge and the River again? Why?

Definitely, whenever I need a good laugh. I don't think the print version would be half as funny.

What other book might you compare Between the Bridge and the River to and why?

Can't - it's incomparable.

Which character – as performed by Craig Ferguson – was your favorite?

The female ex-staffers who make sexual allegations against the televangelist. Great female hysteric voices.

If you could rename Between the Bridge and the River, what would you call it?

CAUTION! Do not drink any beverage while listening to this book.

Any additional comments?

I've read other reviews, a couple negative. If you expect a linear narrative, coming-of-age (pun intended) novel you will be disappointed. This is a greatly extended standup routine that is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, crass an irreverent. For instance, the short, pithy explanation of the Catholic/Protestant scism is right on.

Great performance and a fun story.

The story is fun and oddly sweet with tons of little surprises throughout. But the real highlight is the great performance.

Deus ex Bumblebee

Constantly using a fallacy to justify deus ex. Physics does not prove a Bumblebee cannot fly. If something the size and shape of a bee attempted to fly as though an airplane it would not get off the ground, but they do not do this. They flap their wings and violate no laws of physics.
Knowing this ruins immersion as it comes up often.

I seldom read blurbs and, if I can help it, reviews. (apparently not enough to stop me from writing one though)
I like to go in as cold as possible so I am oft unfamiliar with premise. This can go, as you imagine, splendidly and terribly. On this occasion it was the latter.
If you do not believe in god and/or dislike religion... Maybe not the book for you.

Craig Ferguson's writing style and performance are engrossing, however. His prose are florid and littered with modernity; (I love that shit) and he is a captivating orator, painting the characters all the more.

I'ma go jerk off now, so let that colour your opinion of my opinion.

WOW Nice Job Craig!

Craig can write a story. Loved his characters. Also love that it was performed by Craig himself.
I will definitely listen to his other books. Very entertaining!

A well told story

I really admire Mr Ferguson’s writing. He is very descriptive and his humor comes out of nowhere and surprises and delights. He is a very smart man.

Awesome, funny poignant story told magnificently

Wow- this had me laughing out loud so many times, yet the story is so poignant and compelling. Truly amazing and awesome and SMART work both in the story and the storytelling. The author does a fantastic job in narrating his wonderful story. He is very entertaining in making his point, yet he keeps his point simple and makes his point incredibly well while making you laugh. Brilliant work.

Great philosophical and comedic work of literature

Craig discussed metamorphosis of men troubled by their past and uncertain about his future. Great philosophical interludes. Made me laugh and cry.
