"Brennan [is] a master. The mystery [is] compelling and complex." ( Associated Press)

Publisher's summary

Newly minted FBI agent Lucy Kincaid is settling into her job in San Antonio, Texas, when the corpse of Harper Worthington, the husband of a sitting congresswoman, is found naked in a motel on the wrong side of town. It's up to Lucy to locate the last person to see him alive: a teenage prostitute who seems to have vanished into thin air. When forensics determines that Harper was poisoned, Lucy and her new by-the-book partner dig deep into his life to find out who might want him dead. Why did Harper lie to his wife and his staff? Was he involved in an illicit affair? Embezzling money? Laundering money for a drug cartel? Or was he simply a pawn in someone else's dangerous game? Lucy's boyfriend, Sean Rogan, is hired by Harper's company to run a security audit, causing friction between Lucy and the FBI. But when Sean finds a high-tech bug in Harper's office, an entirely new threat emerges - a far-reaching conspiracy run by a ruthless killer who will do anything to get what he wants and kill anyone who gets in his way. And the person between him and victory is Lucy Kincaid.

Great story line, just a bit repetitive

Love this series and glad to see Lucy working hard as an agent, just a little repetitive at times is only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Now I can't wait for the next one!!!

Intriguing

Once again Allison Brennan takes a storyline and throws twists and turns that you don't see coming. I like the feeling of using my detective skills right along with the characters. Enjoy the reading.

Dang, what a book!

I love Allison Brennan, especially her Lucy Kincaid series. If I say too much it will give it away, so I'll leave you with this, stay alert, you never know what's coming next.

Painstakingly obtuse. We almost gave up the finish.

Would you try another book from Allison Brennan and/or Ann Marie Lee?

Yes

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Lucy and her past had to be the most interesting, yet the pace was painstakingly slow.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ann Marie Lee?

Will Patton

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Written well enough to intrigue us to hear how the multiple layers of themes and plot finish.

TOO DRAMATIC

The narrator is way over dramatic. Even describing breakfast sounds like a life or death situation. I am a fan of the series and as a fan I' m well aware of how perfect Lucy and Sean are. I do not need to be reminded every five minutes. It is like the author is using their relationship as filler. I hope it doesn't continue down this "Twilight-can't breath unless I'm next to you" path.
