Publisher's Summary

When Shax stumbles across rumors of an experimental house that responds to the occupant’s brain functions, creating scenarios to please and delight, naturally, he wants to steal it. But with the return of a troubled and hunted Julian Parallax and an overabundance of Poe references, even Shax’s scheming may not be enough to get the Brimstone crew out alive this time.

Good installment in a good series

I enjoy this series a lot and I'm glad the latest volume is now available on audio. Vance Bastian does a great job, as always, with different and appropriate voices for all of the characters.

I really like the new romance between Mac and Heckle, but otherwise, this plot goes a few places that I'm not totally comfortable with. There's a love triangle happening at this point, and it isn't resolved in this story. But this is really Heckle's book, although several other things happen.

Oh my hell gods

This is the best of the series and I hope there is more. I know when a book is good when I want one of the characters in real life whether it be a pink hedgehog or opera singing multi-pede, an abused imp, a fallen angel, cowboy, or a demon. I love the multi-demention of these characters and the depth of friendship they have. This is not a stand alone book, you have to read in sequence as each book adds a new character and this book adds three more. Even though book 3 is a prequel you should read it before as it adds an important character and event.

Oh, lets not forget Vance Bastian. He is not just a narrator he is a voice actor. All through the book(s) I had to remind myself that there weren't multiple people but just one who embodied these characters. There are but a few narrators that I get excited when I see their name attached to a book and Vance is one. He has such range and different inflections for each character that it's such an experience to listen to. Bravo Mr. Bastian.
