Publisher's Summary

Benedict Keeler was one of America’s most popular models. Hot body, hot career, and super-hot boyfriend, until a devastating house fire destroyed his face and his dreams. After being told all his life that a pretty face is the measure of his worth, he can’t face another rejection and runs from his lover, eventually hiding out on Rainbow Key.

Zachary Jones, a highly sought after photographer - even if he would rather shoot the homeless in Manhattan than a fashion spread - is now facing the real possibility that a genetic disease will render him blind and his days behind a camera may be over.

Two devastated men, one haunted by his past and one convinced he has no future. Will they both hide from the world, or will they give love, and each other, a second chance?

Beautiful together, scars and all

A sweet story of love renewed, hearts reconnected, hope restored. Ben and Zach belong together, and the journey they make, over seven years, is painful and wonderful for them. Each has suffered tragedy, each has witnessed trauma, each has borne loss. How they find each other after their lives are horribly impacted by illness and an accident, and how they find their way to full trust makes this a lovely story. They must overcome their insecurities if they are to move forward, and they must learn to accept not only each other in their new realities but also themselves. They must face their fear of rejection, both by the other, and by society at large, and integrate all the sides of their lives together. Ben has a harder time with all this because his was the more visible change, and his acceptance of the way his life has changed must take into account the fact that he no longer has the beauty he once enjoyed to fall back on. He must see himself as beautiful so that he can accept that Zach does too and will not leave him when his eyesight returns. And Zach must accept that he may never be able to return to photography, but that his life's purpose can still be realized since it is his need to show the world those who are most in need of help that had won him accolades when he was fully sighted. Zach has to learn that perfect vision needs more than healthy eyes, and Ben has to learn that beauty is more than skin deep. The performance was fine...the narrator did a good job of differentiating between characters for the most part.

Ben’s Rainbow

I just can’t wait for more of this series.

These books are all just written so well. The pacing and plots flow perfectly from beginning to end. And Colin Darcy is the perfect narrator to make these stories come alive. His voice captures all of the characters and their personalities and emotions in every aspect of the story.

Ben and Zach both have such heartbreaking things to deal with in their lives. From Ben and the accident that caused his face to be disfigured to Zach who has to deal with loosing his eyesight and possibly losing his calling as a photographer. Hearing what both men have to go through is tough but omg their story and the way they make it back to each other is amazing. They are both fantastic guys and it’s great that they are able to be themselves and vulnerable with each other while keeping each other safe from the outside world and the people who just want to see them fail. I really loved this book and every one in this series series far. I really can’t wait to hear this author comes up with for the rest of the guys at Rainbow Cove.

Love this series

This island is magical and I hope to hear more from it. Ben and Zach's story had ups and downs and when they truly came back together and the heartwarming scene at the end there was tears.

So much love!

Ben and Zach haven't seen each other in years, but when they end up at Rainbow Key, the love they both feel hasn't diminished at all. I love these troubled, moody, wonderful men! Ben's horrific childhood is at the root of all his insecurities and bad decisions, and he thinks he's made peace with the knowledge that he can never again be with the man he loves. That man, professional photographer Zach is now dealing with partial blindness that might possibly get worse. He comes to the island for doctor ordered relaxation, and his excitement at finding Ben living there battles with the doubt and blame he still harbors over the way they parted.
Told in alternating POV's, I easily fell in love with Zach and Ben. Their story was heartbreaking, and their beautiful love was meant to be. This is the third book of the Rainbow Key series, but it's the first one I've listened to. While the couples from those books have large roles here, the story did stand well on its own. However, the wonderful tale the author created and the excellent narration have ensured that I will be listening to the first two books soon!

This amazing book gave me all the feels!

Loved the narration! i laughed and i cried and felt reborn with this wonderful second chance love story!

A second chance at loving the man that holds your heart is a compelling story-line! This amazing book gave me all the feels and it will be a re-read for me! This book grabbed my heart and never let it go throughout the whole story! i cried and laughed, i sighed with happiness and hurt with loss, these characters so wrapped my heart around their lives. Ben and Zach are so special together and i loved watching them fight their way to their future.

I love this authors writing and she continues to tell us fabulous tales about Rainbow Key. This is the 3rd book in this series and it could be read as a stand-alone, however it would be so much better if you had read the first two books. I am hooked on these guys and cannot wait for the next book in this series!

Beautiful Second Chance Romance!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and this installation was no different. There are times when second chances shouldn't be given but in this situation it works beautifully. Learning about Ben's past and his struggles since the fire was heartbreaking and it was just as heartbreaking to hear what Zach went through since their break up. These two wonderful men have so many hurdles to overcome that their HEA is very well deserved. Ben and Zach both had to learn to be more open with each other and to share more of their pasts that they had held back the first time around but through communication and true love they are able to find what they need.I had a hard time understanding Seth's side of things (Zach's brother) but part of me can completely understand at the same time. The last few chapters and the way this story ended seemed to be the most perfect way it could have ended for these two individuals and I love that the author brings in an awareness of real life struggles to her books.

Ever since I read Josh's story I had been waiting for Ben's and I'm so glad I didn't have to wait too long because I think this one is my favorite up to this point. We get to see more of the couples from the first two books as well as the side characters. We also meet more characters which gives me the hope that this series will continue to grow as "Second Chance Island" grows.

Darcy Stark once again did an awesome job with the narration on this one. Very easy to listen to and very easy to determine which character is being read.

Terrific!

If you are looking for a book that will quickly draw you in and have you needing to know what will happen next - this is it. The author has a way of drawing the reader into the story so it feels as though you are a part of what is going on. The story is engaging, heartfelt, and heartbreaking. The narrator does a great job of conveying the emotions of the characters, as well as giving each their own unique voice.

A Great Continuation OF The Series

This is the third book in The Rainbow Key Series. This book can be read as a stand alone but is improved by reading the previous books in the series. A captivating book the writing was great. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters intriguing. The characters were well developed and thought out. Ben and Zach are the MC’s of this book. There was humor, injuries, doctors, friends and family, traveling, a dog, a cabin, reporters, an island, a hotel and so much more in this book. The narrators voice didn’t work for me (I admit I am picky about voices) however the narration was not monotone, and it was expressive. I can highly recommend this book and series as a great read/listen. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Second chance romance?

This is the third book in Victoria Sue's wonderful, quirky Rainbow Key series and while each book technically could stand-alone, I think one finds a deeper appreciation for the character's struggles by reading/listening along in order. Darcy Stark does another great job with providing the characters with their own unique voices and making the world of Rainbow Key come in the reader's imagination.
In this story, the focus is on recluse Ben, a former model, turned author who hides his scarred face after a fire in Hawaii ended his modelling career, and he also fled from his then lover/boyfriend photographer, Zachary Jones.
The two meet accidentally on the beach at Rainbow Key by chance when Zach is sent there by his doctor brother Seth, who meddles/tries to control Zach after his eyesight starts to fail when he's out in Africa on a Charity assignment and far away from immediate medical help. The sight in one eye is almost negligible, but there is still a chance that the vision in his other eye might still be saved if he follows his opthamologist's instructions and gets some rest and relaxation at the newly refurbished resort. Joshua has the doctors and Seth's instruction about what Zach can or can't do/eat/drink, etc.
Zach pursues Ben and the two reconcile until Seth causes waves...will Ben and Zach see their way though to their HEA? True beauty is more than skin deep! I highly recommend that you read/listen along and find out for yourself. A must for all the truly romantic-at-heart everywhere and fans of Victoria Sue.

Loneliness turns to happiness at Rainbow Key

I love Ben's story. I've been waiting for the chance to find out his history as he's flitted in and out of the previous books and I was disappointed with the story he's been given.
Zach is his perfect match and the two, together and separately, have a lot to work through considering what they have both gone through in recent years. The story that they both have to tell pulls on your heartstrings and you can't help but become emotionally involved in their story, as well as that of a couple of new characters that are brought onto the island as it starts to take shape as somewhere safe for LGBT men and women.
Victoria has provided us with a beautiful backdrop of Rainbow Key as the perfect setting for these two men to reconnect. There's obviously a lot of emotion for both of them, positive and negative, and it's really a rollercoaster ride along with them as they sort things for themselves. I love the way that they are both cared for an about by the other residents of the island, especially Josh popping in to make sure things are ok for each of them.
Yet again, Darcy fully endears himself to me as a wonderful narrator, giving voice to two amazing men who are fighting for their chance at happiness in such a beautiful location. His voice is very easy to listen to and it helps you to just fall into the story, not wanting to press pause at any point, needing to know what was happening with the characters, their relationship and their possible future.
Another definite recommendation and I can't wait to see who has the next outing at Rainbow Key.

A second chance for love and life

Ben was a model who believed all he had for himself was his good looks and his modeling career, and he clung to those desperately which affected his decisions and life choices. This created some tense moments and almost alienated his boyfriend Zach. Although frustrated by this, Zach still only sees the surface of the problem since he is busy jetting around for his own photography career. Then, one night a fight sends Zach running off to another remote location and a tragic fire that Ben survives, tears them apart. Now years later, with severe damage from the fire, Ben is hiding out from the world on a tiny little island retreat. Zach is now nearly blind and trying to deal with the loss of his life as he knew it. Desperate for a break, he runs to Rainbow Key to escape it all.

Second chance romances are one of my all time favorite tropes and I ate up the flashback scenes like they were candy. I was a little concerned that the whole model/photographer, scarred man/blind man concept was going to be just a little too cliche. Kinda cheesy, Kinda obvious, kinda just unoriginal. I was pleasantly surprised not to feel this way as the story progressed, though. I’m not sure how the author managed to pull that off but she did, and in my opinion, it worked great.

It was easy to see just how broken and terrified Ben was. His character was presented in a way that we could relate and understand his fears, heartaches and insecurities, which made it easier to believe his actions. There weren’t any big eye roll moments or thoughts of annoyance, because I connected and cared for him. I felt both his need to have Zach back in his life as well as the paralyzing fear of what that would mean. Likewise, Zach’s desperation at having lost everything was palpable. His mixed emotions were still clear and understanding, and not overly dramatic. As a reader, I fell in love with these guys and appreciated the way they fit together like a puzzle. It made their connection as well as their need and love for each other made them jump out of the page and came to life in a tangible way. It was beautifully done and inspiring.

The author does do some jumping around with the POV with in each chapter which always leaves me a little thrown but it didn’t pull me to much from the story or leave me feeling confused to the point that it affected the feel of the book in a negative way. All of the characters in this book were really genuine and kind and I felt a connection to each one. I can't wait to go back and read the books prior to this and will now wait eagerly for the next one in the series.

The narrator has a very soothing voice which I really enjoyed. At times it didn't match the drama of the situation but overall I thought it fit the story really well. This was true for the whole series really

Another great addition to series

This is the third edition of The Rainbow Key Series and it is a great addition, I’m really getting invested into the characters and their stories.
This is a second chance romance between Ben a beautiful male model and Zach his award winning photographer, then a tragic event, immaturity and lack of communication causes a breakup.
Years later, there is a chance reunion on Rainbow Key, where Ben has been in hiding and Zach has come for medical respite.
I’m loving how Victoria Sue is addressing all the medical, physical, emotional and psychological issues in these stories and look forward to the next book.
