Publisher's Summary

Not enough. Catherine Pope has never been enough. Every man she has ever loved abandoned her - from her father to her fiancé. She finally accepted the fact she would never be enough to hold any man's heart and soul.

Then Catherine met Jackson Cole.

When her world literally collided with the sexy former Navy SEAL, everything she always believed is turned upside down and left scattered. He made her feel alive and desirable, consumed her with fierceness and loyalty - which completely unnerved her. Jackson got her in a way no one ever had, giving him the power to destroy her.

If she breaks down and gives him what's left of her battered heart - will he protect it? Or will Catherine become an irrelevant part of yet another man's life?

Will she get the one thing that has always evaded her - to finally be someone's beloved?

Cheated - To Be Continued???

I CALL FOUL!!! A romance novel is not supposed to end halfway through the story. Yes it's a good story, although I find Katherine a little on the whiney side. And some of the things Jackson says and does reminds me of textbook controlling/abusive men (which I find disturbing in the hero) however he is believable as one of the good guys. I get so entirely frustrated with purchasing a book only to find there's not a happy ending conclusion. If I wanted novels like that, I would change genres. Any book that does mot complete the story I purchased should state in the description " This is book does not include the happily ever after ending". Otherwise I think I'm getting at least one full story with the option to purchase additional story beyond the happily ever after or perhaps the story of the roommate.
I don't like purchasing only half a book.

Misery guts

The book started with plenty of potential but I felt the author lost ground with every repetitious ultimatum/climax. There was a lot of sex, a lot of the hero (Jackson) telling the heroine (Catherine) that he felt something deep and meaningful with her. Catherine is "broken" by the men who left her - her father and her ex-fiance - so I accept it's a long road for her to trust him, but Corinne Michaels just doesn't capture it correctly.

I started skipping the sex scenes when I grew tired of ultimatums such as "don't make me beg" and then he makes her beg, or she's going crazy/insane and then he says he's going to drive her crazy/insane... ugh. Please.

Toward the end, Jackson got bothered by some outside things - death of friends and maybe his past love - but Catherine just makes it all about her. She whines and carries on like a pork chop. Maybe Corinne Michaels meant to convey something else entirely but it didn't come across well at all.

I'm definitely going back to strong lead characters after this.

Did not work for me

I did not like the heroine of this story and the story line itself did not hold my interest- I am sure largely because I found the lead insufferable. I already bought the series so I will continue on since it had a cliffhanger and in hopes it gets better.

Uneventful

Not a whole lot happens in this book. Cat is weak and whiny, the evil exfiance and girlfriend are ridiculous characters and the narrator is brutal.

Fantastic story and performance!

This is a book that will give you one heck of an emotional ride. Excellent storyline and narration. Relatable female and male character. Pure perfection! Cannot wait to finish the second book, too.

It was okay. Felt like a waste for me.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. Hollie Jackson voice sounded syrupy. Too high (squilly) when she sounded excited. I am not sure if I could not connect with the heroine because I could not stand the narrators voice.

Would you be willing to try another book from Corinne Michaels? Why or why not?

I am not sure if I would try another book by Corinne Michaels. I really did not care for the heroine in this book. I am not sure why someone as successful and attractive as Jackson would want Catherine. Catherine had way to many daddy issues and insecurities. Plus I think Catherine is 29 years old in this book, but yet she needs every thought to go through her BFF, Ashton. "I need to talk to Ashton before I do this." "I tell Ashton everything." "I need Ashton, she would know what to do." "Ashton, Ashton, Ashton." I thought Catherine was going to bring Ashton to bed with her and Jackson to dictate whether she was performing correctly.. I get the BFF thing, but at 29 and a professional...I don't think you need your BFF to help you with every thought and action. Plus, the heroine always had to bring up the cost of living and why she lives in NJ and not on the upper east side and why blah, blah, blah. WHO CARES?!?!?
I am thinking the author is probably gong to set up Jackson's BFF, Mark, with Ashton. My message to Mark: "RUN!!" She may be pretty to look at, but she uses men like that poor guy at her lab who keeps taking her out for dinner, but Ashton says she will not sleep with him.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Hollie Jackson?

Piper Goodeve or Natalie Ross

Do you think Beloved needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There is a cliffy so it obviously needs a follow-up, but I am not going to read it. I just did not connect with the characters, so I will not be wasting another credit.

Any additional comments?

I am a cliffy whore, but this cliffy did nothing for me.

Horrible narrator, boring story

Not sure why this book had such great reviews. I won't read the rest of the series. Maybe it would have been better if I wasn't trying to tune out the narrator. I found myself not paying attention through most of the book, either due to narrator or just because it was boring.

Poor narrator

I was only able to listen to 9 mins. before I had to turn it off. I have purchased over 30 audible books and have never had a concern about the narrator. They have always enhanced the books and made them more enjoyable. Sadly this book didn't have a chance.

Cliffhanger! 😤

I despise cliffhangers, but luckily the follow up is already available...which I am moving right along to. I've listened to Consolation and Conviction (AWESOME), which is a bit out of order, so I already have a feel for these characters, but I am enjoying hearing about Jacksons story!

Could Of Been Better

The main female characters has major men issues. I get it, your dad left and your husband to be cheated on you BUT the way she just doesn't let it go and whines throughout the whole book is annoying. I didn't hate the book but it's not worth the credit or money to listen to it.

Sickly romance

Long drawn out repetitive romance, with a cliffhanger at the end, probably the worst romance novel I have ever read listened to..

captivating!

I enjoyed the story, the narration was also fun. Hollie (narrator) captured the emotions perfectly with her words.
Kat was a likeable character but at times she really got on my nerves. the same could be said for Jackson, at first I loved him but towards the end he started to annoy me.
And the ending? what the hell!? not happy with it at all, I hate cliffhangers LOL. I look forward to reading book 2!

Great Listen

Don't get me wrong I love the story and the main characters but I hate it when I am left hanging without book 2!

Apparently book 2 is out but not available on audible. It sucks! Not knowing if they end up together or end up separating for good.

At the end of the chapter, it literally said "TO BE CONTINUED"....please have book 2 soon. It's eating me up not knowing. And I do not wish to read, I prefer to listen.

Another thing, there was a little glitch should try to fix that but overall its a good listen.

Meh!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the Consolation duet and Defenceless by Corrine Michaels (yes, I know I read out of order!) and so was interested to read this duet. The story was interesting and gave me a background of Cole Security and all the events leading up to Defenceless. I also liked Jackson, he was UBER alpha and very protective and possessive. What I found hard to enjoy was the heroine Catherine. She was whiny and narcissistic. Everything was "oh poor me"! At times I wanted to reach into my kindle and strangle her!! Definitely not a likeable heroine. I enjoyed the narrator Hollie Jackson though !
