It's a great story with interesting characters, and the narrator did a good job bringing it to life

A love story with a twist ..

I listened to this book on audible and the narrator, Karen Mount, did such an amazing job. I felt as if I was watching a romantic drama because I could picture everything so vividly. This is a very cute love story and the twist comes so unexpectedly it made my audible gasp. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes romantic/drama type of novel.

Straightforward Story and Characters

Disclaimer-romance, which this is, is not my favorite genre. That said, I love to support the work of new authors and narrators. This story is straightforward. If you like romance and linear storylines, this may be a good listen for you. I prefer more complex characters, personally and more twists and turns. The characters in this story are one dimensional. The “good” ones are perfect and the “bad ones” are all bad. I found the way that Mark stepped in and took charge even telling Liz to be quiet in things that were none of his business, especially since he had just met Liz, as sexist and a turnoff.

Re: Narration. The narrator could dial back the drama in reading the story, imho. Cultivating a wider range of tone and inflection and reserving the dramatic excited tone for those parts of the story that warrant it would cue the listener to the fact that an important part of the story is approaching. This would be beneficial to the listener. Also, the main character, Liz, is a young adult but the narrator voiced Liz’s mother, Ruth, as a frail person sounding more like she was 80. I would assume a young adult would have a mother in her 60s and 60s aged people are not frail in today’s world. All in all it was an ok listen-especially if romance is your genre.

What makes the story engaging, are both the characters the scenery of Scotland .
This is a story about betrayal, loss, new beginnings and secon chances in life and love.
The narrator , Karen Mount, brings the story to life.
