Publisher's summary

Do you ever feel burned out, beat up, or just plain bored, wondering, "Is this all there is"? Do you ever feel trapped in a stressful job that leaves you unhappy and unsatisfied? Do you ever question if you're fulfilling your life's purpose? If so, you are not alone. Like millions of Americans, Brian Souza found himself in this precarious position a few years back. Despite attending dozens of motivational seminars and devouring the best the self-help industry had to offer, Souza was left wanting more. The turning point came when he finally realized it wasn't artificial motivation he was after; he was really searching for a legitimate reason to be motivated. Thousands of hours of research and countless interviews later, Souza finally uncovered the secrets he was looking for all along.

Just as musicians must make music, poets must write, and artists must paint, we all have a unique gift designed for a specific vocation that will bring both meaning and purpose to our lives. Become Who You Were Born to Be is a blueprint for discovering your unique gift and using it to realize your personal and professional potential. And to illustrate his life-changing philosophy, Souza relates true stories of everyday people and world-famous celebrities, including Lance Armstrong, Amy Tan, Sylvester Stallone, Garth Brooks, and Oprah Winfrey, who became heroes by overcoming adversity and squeezing every ounce of opportunity from their gifts.

Critic reviews

"It's the psychological astuteness with which he analyzes the fearful life patterns many Americans fall into that makes this book most valuable." (Publishers Weekly)

Such a great book

I already read this book but wanted to download the audiobook as well because it has so many great points. I love the “words of wisdom” and people to contemplate at the end of each chapter. Great listen!

A

This audiobook is simply amazing! Of the hundreds of motivational and inspirational books and recordings I own, this may be the best I have heard. Just as the author explains in the beginning, he has managed to define the core questions many of us have about our life's work. This is also the first book of its kind I have seen that doesn't make assumptions on a persons spiritual convictions regarding a "path in this life". I am strongly Christian in faith and really appreciate the way Mr. Souza demonstrates through countless examples how the responsibility to do or be anything is on us! We are all born with more potential than we will ever use.

Awesome, Awesome Listening

I have been reading and listening to a lot of self-development books and I would like to say that this one tops them all, hands down. Perfect and profound choice of words, inspiring stories that got my juices flowing, words of wisdom that got me thinking deep and hard about who I am and what I want to be in order to return God's favor and give back to society what I have been bountifully blessed with. I could not finish the audio because I kept going back to chapters that really spoke to my heart. Thank God for people like Brian Souza, so blessed, so gifted, so enlightening, I could go on and on and not give enough justification as to why this masterful book/audio should be owned by everyone. This is the only book I could not help but write a review on. It is simply superb!

Fantastic

I was very impressed with this book. It is very motivating, and intelligent! I have listened to many motivational speakers and Brain Souza writes in his own style. I found this book to be interesting, eye opening, sometimes funny and sometimes healing. Great writing, and the reader has a wonderful powerful voice!

Same Old, Same Old

Typical self help material, horrible narration. Average title at best, in my opinion.

Don't waste your time

If you've never read an audio before, then you might like this book. Otherwise, this is just a revamped version of Napoleon Hill with fresher examples. Even the claim of a 20-year study of success is ripped off from Hill. This books brings nothing new to the self-help body of work, it is at best a gross caricature of the genre. Every inspirational quote we've heard a million times is there, story after story of people-who-followed-their-dream-and-never-gave-up (Oprah Winfrey, Michael Dell, Lance Armstrong, Andre Agassi...), author boasting his early career successes and how he gave up everything to go travel and discovered that his mission is "to help people" etc... If you're looking for a book plugging its companion website many times, but with a little more thought-provoking and wittier content, get "The 4 hour Week" instead, at least Timothy Ferris is honest about his intention to write a book as a means to finance his dream lifestyle.
