Publisher's Summary

Dee has always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real her. She's content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn't need a man. She's terrified that all it will take is one person to make all her carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. The second Beck sees Dee, he knows that she will be his. He sees past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. She doesn't want him to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but he makes it his mission to find out. Dee can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop Beck from coming after her. She's it for him and she knows it. She's just too scared to admit it.

Contains mature themes.

MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE

Where does Beck rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In this series, Beck is right along side the other two, Axel & Cage. This story was much different than the other two but equally as great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Beck. It was astonishing how he just kept hanging in with Dee; how he knew who she was and could see through her "happy-go-lucky, over-the-top glee" to her pain and had the patience and tenacity to not only wait her out, but gently and sometimes not so gently push her beyond her masks.

What about Abby Craden and Sean Crisden ’s performance did you like?

All of it throughout the series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but not possible.

Any additional comments?

Not sure why we (meaning those of us who got caught up in this series) had to loose one of our own (no spoilers) but I guess if the rest of the books get published in audio, which I'm praying for, we'll find out.

Please, some common sense would be nice

I am a very emphatic person. I have shed more tears over books and movies than anyone I know but, this story is just stupid. I totally get that women can have relationship issues due to the relationships with their fathers; I myself did not have a healthy relationship with my father that caused issues. But good God, as a. grown woman you get over it. Especially if you haven't been around the man in 10 years.
(spoiler alert )
I also know that PTSD is a real issue but this woman who gets beaten and raped by her best friends husband, after they have been married for two years, does not do the smart common sense thing and report the event to the police. No, she says nothing to anyone, not even to her best to that is married to this monster. She allows her friend to be stuck in that relationship for four more years through beating after beating until her darn near kills her. She could have had the man arrested, saved her friend and started healing from her trauma a decade before she does in the book. Come on, so stupid. I usually love this author's work but this story is rediculous. Also, the male narrator's women voices are so bad they make me cringe.

IT TOOK YEARS BUT BECK FINALLY GETS HIS HEA

You know what you're going to get with this series..... hot Alpha types, a drama filled listen, hot sex, passion and a group of former US Marines who love each other like brothers and will do anything for each other. But the one thing I wasn't prepared for this time was the bitter heartache when the author kills off a main player..... that was a tough pill to swallow. I thought Harper Sloan was brave to do this and to shake up characters and to introduce other characters - so kudos to you...... even if I hated it.

Dee is feisty but she has had a hard life and life just keeps kicking her in the face with more heartbreak until there's nothing left except a mask cleverly erected to protect her from anymore hurt and pain but behind it she's withering away. Her 'so called' friends can't see it but Beck does and he's desperately trying to hold on to her, to show her how much he cares and that he'll be there no matter what but sometimes love just isn't enough and Dee find out you have to hit rock bottom before you can climb..... then soar.

This is a heartbreaking story but it's also one that shows us when a Corps Security guy falls in love it's forever - no matter the cost, consequences or outcome, it's unconditional and Beck really had to hold on and ride the emotional wave that was Dee in order to be there at the end when it all came crashing in around her. Plenty of sex, humor, romance by the bucketful, suspense, drama and angst as Dee stirs up trouble which leads to a lot of danger, tears, shocking events and a death. Good character growth with Dee too.

Dual POV, good narrators, a story that goes back in time then spans a few years giving fans of the series up-to-date news of the previous couples, a strong but vulnerable heroine and a sexy, loyal and caring hero and together their explosive in the bedroom, the kitchen etc., etc., etc.

Worth a credit? It may take me a bit of time to listen to these books as there are so many good books being released everyday and sometimes I'm in the mood for Vampires, or Billionaires, or Wolves, or Bikers..... well you get the drift but it's a series I will always come back to because they're all one big tortured happy family. Creditworthy - you bet.

Too much anger....

I'm trudging through this series because I'm new to audiobooks and it's included in the romance package but it's getting more and more difficult. Each book is similar in that hero is alpha male, demanding and angry, proclaiming HIS woman and he'll protect her---okay, fine, but geez, a bit too forceful. Anger is anger ... no matter what the intention and considering these women jump into bed right off the bat, how do they tell the difference in a rapist and a protector?? And since Dee was a victim of rape, that much anger would have put her in a gut-wrenching panic.

If you do another series like this, Ms. Sloan, ease off on the anger so we can at least LIKE the hero.

Narrators are really good....love the double POV (the soft, female voice just doesn't get it for these angry Alphas).

A strong man

I loved how Beck never gave up on D and his love for her even though it took him 2 yrs. to get through to her he was always there. I love the character of these military men so strong and full of promise in this story.

Terrible narration, depression and sex.

I should have stopped listening on chapter two or three. How many times can one women be beat up, molested and just plain have no luck.

Narration was monotone at best and soynded as pathetic as the charater. Not even interested in any of the other books in this series this one was so bad.

For being such a bad ass man with bad ass friends, they sure could not save her or themselves.

STOP USING ABBY CRADEN

She clearly has a flipping saliva problem. She cannot act, so her narrative attempts are frustrating (of course--that is most likely heightened frustration because she SOUNDS like she needs to SWALLOW THE SPIT THAT IS CLEARLY IN HER MOUTH). No. No. No.

Narrators

Unfortunately I have run into this on a few occasions. I absolutely love ❤️ the story or series but the narrator or narrators just drive me crazy 🤨 I tolerate it bc I enjoy 😊 the books 📚. I just wish they would find better quality narrators.

Love this Series

Great series... I really enjoyed all the books but so far Melissa & Greg story is my favorite, I guess one for sure reason why is be Melissa wasn’t a weak women however I understand why Izzy and Dee are shown as weak women because of the abused the had to overcome. Was a lil worried about listening to this book because I thought Dee just was an attention seeker or just really felt sorry for herself but was happy to hear that wasn’t entirely the case.. Harper Sloan is an Awesome writer she really had me chocking up on the scene with the MASON JAR.. I don’t want to say to much to give this story away, you must check it out! Now on to the next 😉

Wow

As with the two previous books I found this riveting from beginning to end, it has it all drama, laughter, sorrow, it has it all. A definite read
