Publisher's summary

They say the gods will accept no small sacrifice. To appease them you must give your all.

I’ve sacrificed everything. Lived through loss, and learned to love. To take the beauty with the pain. The rose with the thorns.

This love story isn’t perfect, but it’s ours. We’ll hold onto it forever. And hope our forever is longer than a day.

Ties up the ending pretty well

***I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review***

This was considerably shorter and faster for the final book. Nevertheless, I think it tied up everything pretty nicely with a HEA. All my questions from the previous books are answered.

It was super sweet to see how caring Logan was to Daphne as she relapsed. And I loved Daphne’s resilience; she didn’t let her disease define her. She values life and wants honesty by thinking realistically. It was a nice juxtaposition to Logan who struggled to face reality—as a couple, it was sweet and enduring to see how they would face this challenge together.

Logan can be an idiotic goob. His heart is in the right place, but there were moments that I felt annoyed with him because his hot temperament got the better of him. But I suppose that makes for a good story—Logan and Daphne don’t get their way easily.

I really hated Adam, so kudos to the authors for the characterization. I just wish his “downfall” was more tactical. Maybe I’m just a petty lady but I like it when whiny chauvinistic villains like him really get what’s coming to them. I felt like his comeuppance came too easily with little resistance.

Pretty sure we will be expecting another series with the character Sebastian St. James. Interested to see which figure from classical mythology he will portray.

Regarding narration, the only gripe I have is the way the narrators pronounce “Ubeli.” When I read Innocence, my mind said Ū-belly. But the narrators say OO-bully. Honestly, it’s a preference thing so it doesn’t detract from their overall performance.

Logan & Daphne's Search For A Cure!

Logan And Daphne's Story Takes A Tragic Turn When Battleman's Disease Returns. As They Struggle For A Cure, Familiar Characters Enter The Mix.

This is book three of the Beauty and the Rose series, which is a steamy modern spin on Beauty and the Beast. It follows book one (Beauty's Beast) and book two (Beauty and the Thorns), and is best read in sequence.

For fans, characters in other books by the authors make brief cameos in the story. Marcus and Cora from the Innocence trilogy make an appearance.

To review, the story takes place in New Olympus. It revolves around Belladonna, a research company that was once headed by Dr. Piers Laurel. The company's mission was to find a cure for Battleman's disease, the illness that Dr. Laurel's wife fought. When she died seven years ago, the doctor was overcome by his failure to save his wife and was lost to his depression. The board fell under the influence of conniving Adam Archer, heir to Archer Industries, a billion dollar empire. Adam, along with Logan Wulfe, had conducted research at Belladonna under Dr. Laurel. Adam wanted to shift the company's focus from diseases to cosmetics.

Logan Wulfe, at twenty-seven, had always been rough around the edges. His parents were into drugs more than parenting and he was orphaned at age twelve. He grew up never having felt the love of a family. He did eventually find a mentor, and Dr. Laurel became a surrogate father figure once he began research at Belladonna. He worked diligently towards finding the cure Dr. Laurel sought.

Daphne Laurel, at nineteen, didn't have much of a childhood. Her mother was often sick and her father's sole focus was on finding a cure for his wife. To please her father and help her mother, Daphne devoted herself to her studies. At eighteen, she was nearly finished with her PhD. She spent long hours studying at the lab. It was then that she quietly tried to get noticed by Logan, her first crush.

Logan became aware that Daphne was no longer a child, and as tempted as he was by her, he knew she was yet too young for him. But they spent long hours together in the lab, so they developed a close friendship over the course of a year. But Logan's life took a devastating turn when he discovered Adam's scheme to take over the company shortly after Daphne's mother passed. Logan ended up hospitalized and disfigured, eventually disappearing from the hospital and New Olympus.

Seven years later, Dr. Laurel's daughter Daphne was CEO and her father was in the hospital. Belladonna was struggling. Daphne had just left Logan's castle to check on her father after promising Logan to return to him afterward. She had been held by him for two weeks as part of a mad plot for revenge, but by the time she left they had developed real feelings for one another. Daphne was intercepted by Adam while en route to her father and proposed to amidst a crowd of reporters. Though she never actually accepted, she was incapable of forcefully speaking for herself. She knew immediately how deeply the news would hurt Logan and accepted that he would take it out on her when she returned. Logan owned Belladonna's patents, so she had to face him to try to get them back and save Belladonna.

Logan was devastated by Daphne's betrayal. That she accepted Adam's proposal, his enemy, made it worse. He wasn't sure how many times he could break and still go on. So when Daphne showed up at the castle asking for him to return the Belladonna patents, he planned to make her burn for them. He was the Master, the Beast, and she was his slave. Daphne planned to take the punishment. She hoped the anger would burn out and they could return to being Logan and Daphne.

The couple came to terms again and finally got rid of Adam, but not without tremendous public embarrassment and personal pain. But just as they were finally free, Battleman's disease hit Daphne, an effective death sentence.

Here, Logan learns about Daphne's diagnosis and history with the disease that took her mother's life. History stands to repeat itself as Logan is determined to save Daphne by finding a cure, much like Dr. Laurel before him. Daphne grapples with the relapse of the a disease that crippled her twice before in her childhood. With Daphne diminished physically, she and Logan both struggle with the physical desires that once played such an important part of their relationship. When the couple finally comes to terms with their reality, figures from their past reappear and trouble returns. In the end, the couple earns their happy ending. Hints of a spin-off book about Sebastian St. James, a dark and secretive figure from New Rome, end the story.

Logan and Daphne's story takes a tragic turn when Battleman's disease returns. As they struggle for a cure, familiar characters enter the mix. Logan and Daphne's journey is a steamy story with complex storylines. It is nicely written. The plot is complex (hence the review of books one and two above). The characters are well-defined. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Logan and Daphne. I rate this book four stars.

As for the Audio: it is well-performed.

I wish there were more books in this series. I loved the ending! the whole series was amazing, and this book was icing on the cake. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't wait to hear the ending! I was given a complimentary copy, and this is my honest opinion.

Book 3 of 3

What a great series. Lots of drama and romance.
Daphne is in another fight for her life, but she doesn't want to watch Logan focus his whole life trying to save her like her father did for her mother.
Logan will do anything to save Daphne, even negotiate with the enemy, but will it work.
Amazing ending.
