Publisher's Summary

Beasts in My Belfry is the wonderfully funny memoir about Gerald Durrell's time at Whipsnade Zoo and his experiences as a young zookeeper. Following the Second World War, Durrell joined Whipsnade Zoo as a junior keeper - an opportunity that fulfilled a lifelong dream. Thanks to Rupert Degas's brilliant voicing, which captures all of Durrell's charm and wit, the listener can enjoy being taken behind the scenes of one of the world's very first zoos. This is a delightful portrait of the animals who lived there and those who looked after them.

love these books!

I love these books so much! I love hearing the stories he tells about the animals and people in his life. they are so fun and some of the stories make me laugh! I did look up a few of the animals mentioned as I couldn't picture what they looked like.

Gerald at the zoo

Enjoyable in its own way but subject matter not as funny or interesting as his corfu books.
Great narrator interesting epilogue.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed hearing about this year of Gerald’s life. Entertaining and enjoyable as usual with his books, and interesting to hear about the animals and about what it is like to work at the zoo at that time.
