Publisher's summary

"A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog, but a horrible new creature who walks upright – a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

"You think I’m talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It’s no deformity, no disease. And I’ll stay this way forever – ruined – unless I can break the spell.

"Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she urn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I’ll tell you how I became perfectly...beastly."

surprised

I loved this book. it was a modern twist on the good old fairy tales. I loved how it mixed in fairy tale characters from the past. the message is appropriate for our times in society as well. Teenagers should listen to the story.

Old tale retold

Would you consider the audio edition of Beastly to be better than the print version?

Sure because the narrator brought the book and characters to life. I love to hear the various voices.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Beastly?

When he realize that he can be good and it will be the right thing for her to let her go so she could go to find her father

What does Chris Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The change, because his voice got gentle. Or when the beast roars.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I almost did it.

Any additional comments?

It is a teen book, that is clear but it is well told. The story itself is old and moved to the present day. Nice entertainment for the ride into work.

I LOVE BEASTLY

Alex Flinn's Beastly is so good. I love the way Chris Patton narrates it. He changes his voice very nicely so its easy to picture everything he is telling you.

Yes!! it was soooo cute...teenage angst and all!!!!!!!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how Kyle/Adrian became the man he was supposed to be...it touched my heart to tears!!!

What does Chris Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh he was soooo good...I would listen to him narrate anything....he gave a great performance..emotional, raw..and funny!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was so touched when he told Lindy she was not a prisoner...that she could go...even though he really wanted her to stay forever!!!!

Any additional comments?

I started this book thinking ok...maybe it will be a 3 star listen...it will be quick...and fell in love with it!! this was a terrific re-telling of an age old tale that will make you laugh, make you angry at times, and will make you cry...this is a very special story...I loved it very much!!! Light Romantic Read for Young Audience

Interesting interweaving with "chat room" fairy tale characters hosted by Mr. Anderson, but story of boy becoming beast could use some editing where he becomes overly introspective and doubtful that he will win the girl in time.
