Publisher's summary

At 46, I’m going through The Change....
In more ways than I’d ever imagined.

After Dean Thompson broke my heart 28 years ago,
I left my hometown and never looked back.
Now my adoptive parents are nearing their 80s,
And even though they’re shifters,
They need help more than they’d care to admit.
So I packed up my life and my hormonal teenage daughter
And finally headed home to Carlton.
Just as we were getting settled,
Mom accidentally started a fire at her chocolate shop.
And who showed up to put it out?
Friggin’ Dean.
He may have extinguished that flame,
But the second he took off his helmet,
He reignited one inside my soul.
I’d spent so long trying to forget that damn bear shifter,
But when he asked to catch up, I couldn’t resist,
Even though I knew it was bad news.
Now that I’m rekindling my relationship with Dean,
A truth is revealed about my past,
Forever changing the concept of life as I know it.
Hell, I thought menopause was a rollercoaster,
But buckle up, buttercup...it’s time for the ride of my life.
Steamy shifter love scenes and an HEA inside! No cheating or cliffhanger in this stand-alone romance. Listeners 18+.

Second Chance At Romance

Rebecca has come back to her home town in Carlton with her young teenage daughter Madison who did not want to move. Dean is a super sexy alpha bear shifter volunteer firefighter; he also works for Thompson and Son Logging and he broke Rebecca’s heart over 28 years ago. Rebecca was adopted by her elderly 80 something parents when she was a baby. They are the owners of a chocolate shop and are in need of their daughter’s help so she returns home. One day Rebecca’s mom accidently sets the chocolate shop on fire and none other than Rebecca’s heart throb comes to put out the flames but he ignites a flame in Rebecca. Dean has never forgotten about Rebecca and has known for years that Rebecca is his fated mate and his bear lets him know. Dean is not sure how he should inform Rebecca about her being his mate. Rebecca not only has her parents to worry about; her teenaged daughter Madison is now hanging with a rival clan.
This is a great read with an intriguing surprising twist that you will not want to miss this addition to the Fated Over Forty series.

Frustrating in a good way

Epitome example of main characters that can't get out of their own way of happiness. Throughout the book you're yelling at the main characters to just learn to communicate and they'd have had 'perfect' lives when they were teenagers instead of middle forties. It's a good read and shows how flawed we really are as people when we don't just shut up and actually listen.

Rebecca and Dean

This is a great addition to a very enjoyable series, it tells Rebecca and Dean's story and also shows very well the different attitudes people adopt at different ages. Rebecca and Dean were meant to be together but their road to happiness isn't a smooth one.

I like the narration by D C Cole, he did such a great job of bringing the characters to life.

A nicely done narration of a nicely written book

I like how dedicated both Dean and Rebecca are to their families. Rebecca comes home after more than twenty eight years to care for her elderly parents. Dean is dedicated to his clan. I love how they still have so many feelings for each other. I like the shifter details and different aspects of that life. While this is my original review for the ebook, i am revising it to say that I don't think Dean necessarily broke Rebecca's heart the first time. She is stubborn and refuses to try to understand some very important things. The audio version is nicely narrated. I enjoy listening to this series. Nicely written.

Excellent series

I have really enjoyed the fated over forty series so far. Each can be read as a stand-alone but all are wonderful.

Not For Me

I'm giving this 4 stars because it's well-written, and I love the series overall, but I did NOT like Rebecca in this story. I just couldn't get on board with her, and I honestly almost didn't finish this one, but it was an audiobook, so I pushed myself through it. She wasn't a good character, IMO, she wasn't good to Dean, and she wasn't really a good mother, either. She literally did not parent her child, and then was shock when her child didn't listen... go figure. She abandoned Dean for the most ridiculous reasons, without a conversation about what things were REALLY like; she literally didn't even discuss it with her parents to see if her bigoted perceptions were accurate in any way, and just basically abandoned everyone she knew for nearly 30 years and then came back with the exact same attitude. Sure, maybe she "learned" something and changed a bit by the end of the story, but I could not figure out what Dean saw that was so special about her, honestly. So, for me, this just didn't work AT ALL; but again, it's very well-written, and I enjoy the stories in this series and have loved the others so far, but this character just grated on me the whole time. Maybe it's just me, but that's my honest opinion; I will, of course, read other books from Meg Ripley because she's talented and I like her style.

Second Chance

Rebecca and Dean were in love when they were teenagers, until Dean broke her heart. Dean is a bear shifter and Rebecca while part of the clan, was human. Rebecca had left town, but twenty eight years later she is back in town to help her parents, bringing with her sixteen year old daughter, Madison.

The pair see each other for the first time in years when there is a fire in chocolate shop her parents own. Dean has always known she is his fated mate, even if she is a human, he does not know fi he should tell her.

Rebecca has a lot to maneuver, with parents shop, Dean back in her life and Madison hanging out with a rival clan.

The narrator has a calm voice, which fits with the story.

Childhood sweethearts

Dean and Rebecca were childhood sweethearts until she broke his heart and left town. 28 years later she returns to help her ailing adoptive parents with their store. She returns with her teenage daughter Madison. She had no intention of rekindling anything with Dean. Except she can’t see to stay away no matter how hard she tries. Nothing has changed the same issues still exist.

Dean can’t believe Rebecca is back to stay. His bear wants him to claim her but Dean is gun shy on how she left him all those years ago. Unknown parties in the woods and a heritage that no one knew about will either bring them back together or completely tear them apart.

I really enjoyed Dean and Rebecca’s story. We got to see how they changed over the years and how they interact now. And we are never too old to learn new things about out self or even to come to understand that history isn’t always the way we thought it was. This was a great read and I look forward to future books by Meg Ripley.
