Beard With Me is the origin story of Billy Winston and Scarlet St. Claire (aka Claire McClure) and is just the beginning of their epic love story.

No one is better at surviving than Scarlet St. Claire and making the best out of circumstances beyond her control is Scarlet’s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, she’d be the last person on earth, hermitting like a pro, singing along to her CD Walkman, and dancing like no one is watching.

Scarlet is clever, Scarlet is careful, and Scarlet is smart...except when it comes to Billy Winston.

No one is better at fighting than Billy Winston and raging against his circumstances - because nothing is beyond his control - is Billy’s specialty.

In an apocalyptic situation, he’d be the first person on earth to lead others to safety, overcome catastrophe, or die trying.

Billy is fearless, Billy is disciplined, and Billy is honorable...except when it comes to Scarlet St. Claire.

Winston Brothers fans know what will happen from hints in other books, but still heartfelt and worth the listen. As always, the narration is excellent. What a story! What resilient characters! I love hanging out with this family. Seeing the men as little boys and finally getting a picture of Jethro during his dark years was valuable. I was a little unsure about reading about teenagers, but the story is engaging and well done. The big problem with this one is that Audible doesn't yet have Beard Necessities. So frustrating to have to wait!
I do believe this story would be more meaningful to readers who know the series, although it might be ok without.

I have greatly enjoyed all of the audiobooks in this series, but this one has really had an impact on me! I’ve been anticipating this story throughout the series, but I wasn’t prepared for how emotionally invested I would actually get. This is seriously a masterpiece! Just make sure you have your tissues ready.

Oh the beautiful heartache!

Beard with Me gifts us with the hopeful and heartbreaking history of Scarlet St. Claire (Claire McClure) and Billy Winston. I cried, y'all. I cried multiple times.

It made me fall in love with all of the Winstons--especially Billy and Cletus--even more, and I didn't know that was possible.

And bonus: Penny Reid drops in background and tidbits for nuggets she has planted throughout the series.

I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley knock it out of the park. Talk about pulling on your heartstrings--whoa.

The Hopeful & Heartbreaking Backstory

It is just really hard to listen to because the author sexually objectifies a 14 year old girl. I don’t care how mentally or physically mature she is for her age. It was just really weird to listen to. I kept having to remind myself that they were both so young (14&16).
I also understand that is how teenagers act and think but I honestly felt like a creeper for reading about their physical encounters.
Just me though.
I liked finally knowing why “Clair” left.

I like it.
