It orders the covert extraction of Karpinsky. Attempts to warn the marshals via their satellite phone are unsuccessful.

The US intelligence community assesses Karpinsky and his protectors are in mortal danger. The president orders the Pentagon to retrieve them before the Russians can attack. There’s only one problem. The most powerful nation in human history has been rendered near impotent by a vicious Arctic storm. Alaska is experiencing severe icing weather that has grounded all military air assets within range of the cabin except for a lone Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter on the ramp at Homer Airport. The Pentagon initiates Operation Bear Trap and scrambles to assemble an ad hoc rescue team of coast guardsmen and military reservists and retirees for a possible suicide mission facing a highly trained team of Spetsnaz operators.

Fortunately, the NSA determines a CIA paramilitary operations officer and retired Navy SEAL, Jon Smith, has just arrived in Homer for his own well-deserved vacation. He is recalled to active duty to prepare and lead the rescue team. Can he and his ragtag group of Red Shirts save them before time runs out?

Great listen

Great and exciting story, if you are looking for excitement this is the audio book for you. I enjoyed all the details of the book, really made the story come alive. Each chapter was filled with excitement from beginning to the end. The narrator did a great job as well brining the story to life, each character was distinct and you knew who was talking during each segment. I look forward to more Jon Smith books and others by Bob Asher.

Great military based novel!!

Asher intertwines military tactics and police procedure to tell an interesting story. And there is a helicopter!!

The narrator’s performance was very solid and believable.

Great book! This book has lots of characters & and lots of going on, which I really like.

Plenty of details and just a great book.

Narration was solid. So important for an audio book. Especially will military terms.

Great opening book in a series.

Really enjoyed this book. The book kept you engaged from start to finish. The author explained terminology that readers might not know what it meant. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the second book in the series. I am now onto Bob Asher's book about police.
