Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling authors Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson comes Bastille vs. the Evil Librarians, the thrilling conclusion to the Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians saga.

As a Knight of Crystallia, I, Bastille, swore to protect the Smedry clan from the Evil Librarians. (And believe me, screwups like them constantly need protecting.) But when Alcatraz Smedry got strapped to an altar of outdated encyclopedias to be sacrificed to the dark gods, I arrived too late―and instead his father took his place.

Now Alcatraz is a blubbering mess, so it’s up to me lead the charge against his father’s killer: Biblioden, founder of the Evil Librarians―I was sure he died centuries ago!―who’s back to complete his goal of world domination. Now he’s going to use the dark powers he gained from that sacrifice against everyone not under Evil Librarian control. Being burned up from the inside is not how I plan to die, so I’d better figure out some way to stop him or we’re toast!

I know Alcatraz is wrong when he swears he’s no hero. But when a hero falls short, that’s the time for everyone else to step up and do what needs to be done.

The ending we were waiting for

Well done, Bastille!

Without making book five’s ending out to be a joke or some sort of confused mistake, Bastille brings Alcatraz’s story to its true ending. The heavy consequences that so shocked us in Alcatraz’s ending aren’t undone, but they are redeemed.

And Alcatraz’s point about not being a good person, etc, etc? Well, ok Al — you finally got your point across, with a little help from Bastille. You’re not a good person. You’re arrogant, and a coward, and stupid. Sometimes. You’re no superhuman hero, despite that Incarna power. You’re a flawed human who has to fight his shortcomings over and over to choose what’s good, and who needs his friends and family as much as anyone else.

Well done, indeed. (Guess I’ll have to be true to my word and give book five that fifth star!)

An excellent story.

My biggest unhappiness is due to the more adult themes and relationships at the tail end of the 5th and throughout this book.

The first 4 books are squarely in 8-12 but 5 and 6 are pushing 14-16 and my daughter will have to wait till then.

Different point of view

I like the way it is wrapped up, and I enjoyed the way the story is told through a different characters point of view yet still keeps the same personality the other books had.

Amazing ending!!

We’ve loved the entire series and have come to love Bastille as a character as well, so it felt totally natural to hear things from her perspective. The reader, Suzy, is amazing and we love her witt and sarcastic tone! Overall well done!!! Thank you Brandon Sanderson for finishing this series!

I didn't expect this book to be made. still good.

I listened thru the Evil Librarians series about 6 years ago and loved them. The humor was great, and I liked how he used each book like an exercise for a specific writing technique. I always assumed that he wrote these with the help of his students in his writing classes he teaches. I don't remember which book was the one that kept messing up the chapter numbers, and referring to a chapter that didn't exist, but I loved it. The series was a nice, fun, lighthearted, YA group of books that was entertaining enough for me to appreciate.

I thought the series was over, so when this showed up on audible I didn't know what to say. I hadn't expected it and wasn't sure if it would have everything the last 5 books had when I thought everything was over and done with. This was done very well by continuing the final battle from the last one in a way that worked well. The narrator was now thru the point of Bastille, which was a neat way to keep things fresh as well as avoiding the awkwardness of trying to do a sequel from something 6 years old now. Her perspective allowed for an entirely new style and writing concepts, as well as delving into her relationships with the Smedry's.

Overall, very good and just as entertaining as the previous books. I would have loved a little more refresher info at the beginning to help remind me of all the characters, but it all worked out eventually.

Recommended.

Short but still fun series closer

Narration quality was excellent, even though the story was a little short. Some of the scenes felt a little forced, but overall it was still an enjoyable read.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Another resounding, successful book by Brandon Sanderson. Thank you! I highly recommend this to middle and high schoolers and anyone who enjoys fun, sometimes silly, fantasy. Read the first 5 in the series first. Narrators are perfect.
