Publisher's summary

Will this mystery game be murder?

Peaceful Dreams B&B is hosting a murder mystery game to celebrate its grand opening. Local sleuth Clarissa Hayes and her loyal Saint Bernard, Paw, have joined in the entertainment.

All is fun and games until one of the guests is found dead at the bottom of the basement stairs. Was it an accident? Or murder? Did the victim share a secret past with one of the guests or the B&B owners?

It's up to Clarissa and Paw to trail the clues to find out the truth. Along the way they're joined by a bevy of friends, both human and animal, including a black cat who is embroiled in a mystery of his own.

Will peaceful dreams reign or will the killer unleash nightmares for all?

This is the second novel in A Dog Detective Series. Mastiffs, Mystery, and Murder was the first novel.

Entertaining and Light

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in a series - A Dog Detective Series. I have not read the first book in this series. This is a stand alone story -- although there are some references to events which occurred in the first book in the series -- there is nothing that ditracted from fully understanding the characters or the storyline in the second book without having read the first book.

I am a sucker for cozy mysteries with animals -- especially animals who get involved in the mystery and are protective of their caregivers. There is a murder mystery weekend planned at the local Bed & Breakfast but before the game can begin, an actual murder occurs. Clarissa was supposed to help with the game and since she has some experience in solving crime, she is called to the scene. This is a cute story -- with animals running everywhere while Clarissa and her crew - both animal and human - try to solve the murder. It's a light quick read with a bit of animal mayhem thrown in for fun.

The narrator, Nancy Bober, did a great job - both voicing the humans and the animals.

Shades of Agatha!

This is essentially a locked house mystery--with everyone free to come and go. The key elements, however, are all in place: a large number of seemingly unrelated people gathered for a murder mystery weekend, not anticipating the murder will be real. Unraveling who knew whom how is part of the charm and, as read by Nancy Bober, like listening to an early radio play. And, of course, the whole plot goes to the dogs! Lots of fun.

Enjoy!

cozy-mystery, pets, law-enforcement, amateur-sleuth, private-investigators, murder-investigation

The Bed and Breakfast hosts a mock murder mystery weekend that gets real.
The owners and friends have a number of rescued pets, but none of the guests brought any this time. A human finds the first victim, a dog finds the first clue, a cat finds an expensive bracelet that seems unrelated to the murder. And then things really get twisty!
An excellent cozy with delightful characters. And the people are interesting, too!
Nancy Bober gives an excellent interpretative narration.

Bassett’s and black male

I did not enjoy this book. I read the first one in the series and it was OK. I don’t feel like the narration is appropriate for this book. Or this series. The series seems to be a part of another series that’s not on audible I kept checking to make sure this was number two because it seemed like there was a whole other part that wasn’t in book one or two that I missed out on this book was not at all what I thought this whole murder mystery thing just didn’t fit with the dog thing it was like it was to plots going into one book. It was chaotic, and would not recommend this one.

A cute cozy mystery with clever animals

Bassets and Blackmail is a cute cozy mystery with clever animals. The story is a pleasant one to listen to. There are deaths (it is a murder mystery after all), but the story is more about solving the crime then the death themselves. This is a clean, non offensive book. The narrator of the audiobook does a very good job.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Great Fun Cozy Mystery

This was quite a fun cozy mystery... Dogs on the case and enough twists to keep it interesting. It a great book for those who like the cost mysteries and at the same time doesn't suck you in so intensely that you can't put it down to get work done or go to bed. The content was clean and free of language, sex and graphic violence. The narrator was very entertaining and enjoyable to listen to.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Better than the last

Bassets and Blackmail is better than the last book. The plot is more developed and the characters are interesting. I look forward to the next book. Nancy Bober does a good job giving the characters different voices. I look forward to the next book.

Fun Cozy

I love cozy mysteries with dogs. Paw the Saint Bernard was a fun playful helpmate for sleuth Clarissa Hayes. This book starts out as a Mystery Game weekend at a local bed and breakfast. But it fast turns in to the real thing. There are lots of characters in this cozy mystery and I find it hard to keep up with so many. This is the 2nd book in this series and I have not read book one but had no problems because of that. This book works well as a stand alone story. The narrator Nancy Bober does a good job of giving animal sounds and reading this book. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.

Paw and pal are on the case.

This was another great story in this series. Clarissa , Bruce and friends with help from the fur babies solve another murder. I enjoy this series being a animal lover, i enjoy the interaction the characters have with the animals and how the animals seem to help find clues to the murders. I loved the part in this book where Paw and Samuel and Saber subdue the killer. The narrator is great. I love the sounds she does for the dogs and the cats. I will continue listening/reading this series. I was gifted this book per my request in exchange for an honest review.

Fun Cozy Mystery!

This is the 2nd book in the Dog Detective Series but it stands alone. Clarissa Hayes and her dog, Paw, are participating in a murder mystery game held at Peaceful Dreams Bed and Breakfast. One of the guests is found dead at the bottom of the stairs. An accident?!! Fun story with lots of quirky characters! Ill tell you, these are some detective pets! The book is nicely read by the narrator. I now want to hear the first book in the series! I was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
