Cozy Mystery

This was a great whodunit cozy mystery. The narrator Machelle Williams did a great job. I am looking forward to the next in the series. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, and found it very entertaining. The characters are very interesting and well written. Life in a small town, may seem quiet to most, but it's never boring for the local dog walker. Olivia manages to discover a body, just trying to get her morning coffee. Olivia not wanting to deal with her own life, decides to solve this murder. Chaos and humor is the result in this delightful tale with a sneaky ending. I'll definitely will be listen to book 2.

Who done it?

This was a cute book. Love the characters and Olivia trying to avoid being proposed to and trying to find clues to who murdered Yvette. Olivia seems to have trouble with commitment but loves to be nosy even when the police tell her to leave the case alone. I look forward to more in this series. The narrator, Machelle Williams, did a great job. I was gifted this audio book in exchange for an honest review.

Quirky whodunnit not-the-marrying-type romance

What did you love best about Barking up the Wrong Bakery?

The characters were all well drawn and I felt a connection with them and on top of that, the story was engaging, unusual and kept me guessing

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved all the descriptions of the dogs but the main character kept me rooting for her too

What does Machelle Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a voice that brings life to the characters while simultaneously making you feel like you're wrapped up with hot cocoa listening to a good storyteller

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but It kept me listening, finding times to squeeze in a chapter more

Any additional comments?

An enjoyable listen - charming story with more than enough intrigue to keep a whodunnit fan happy

Enjoyed this very much!

I enjoyed this story very much. I found myself chuckling out loud several times, but the mystery was well written, as well. Side note of the romance was really good. I loved how Olivia, although she loved her boyfriend, came to really appreciate his love for her. The fun stories of her pet walking business and her need for listening to audiobook mysteries were a boost for who Olivia is. Machelle Williams did a fantastic job of narrating this story.

A great cosy mystery

This was such a fun book to listen to.

Olivia Rickard is an accidental sleuth trying to take her mind off an impending proposal she is expecting. She is set on solving the mystery, especially when one of her friend’s is considered a suspect.

I really enjoyed Olivia’s internal thoughts. Her friends and the other supporting characters – with plenty of quirky habits - provide lots of entertainment. There are plenty of quick-witted people in town.

I did not guess who the killer was but that’s never been my strength.

The narration was excellent. The pacing was great, emotions were well conveyed and each character had a distinct voice.

I am looking forward to listening to more books in this series.

Not what I expected

Normally I enjoy this sort of thing.
What looked like a cozy mystery turned out to be somewhat convoluted.
I appreciate the lengths taken to show how happy everyone is and how tough and level headed our protagonist is. I just found the narrator to be a bit wooden and almost too sweet. Like maybe her real voice would be suited for something villainous. She did a fine job, it just seemed she was trying too hard.
I struggled to finish and sped up the play time, doing my best not to skip.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

Warming cozy mystery

There is something magical about Machelle's voice - it's sooo comforting and perfect for a cozy mystery. I really enjoyed this cozy, it's my first audiobook cozy and it was easy to pick up and listen to through the week. Perhaps it's because it centres around dogs and I love dogs! lol! I thought the plot with Andrew and Olivia was amusing, especially the lengths she went to avoid a 'proposal'. But I really enjoyed the mystery, I didn't guess who dunnit from the beginning.
