Publisher's Summary

It's summer on Nantucket, and as the season begins, three women arrive at the local airport, observed by Josh, a local boy, home from college. Burdened with small children, unwieldy straw hats, and some obvious emotional issues, the women - two sisters and one friend - make their way to the sisters' tiny cottage, inherited from an aunt.

They're all trying to escape from something: Melanie, after seven failed in-vitro attempts, discovered her husband's infidelity and then her own pregnancy; Brenda embarked on a passionate affair with an older student that got her fired from her prestigious job as a professor in New York; and her sister Vickie, mother to two small boys, has been diagnosed with cancer. Soon Josh is part of the chaotic household, acting as babysitter, confidant, and, eventually, something more, while the women confront their pasts and map out their futures.

OMG...spoiler alert:

I am cancer free as of now(about two and a half years after diagnosis) and this book really hit me hard. I would buy it again despite the knowledge I have after reading it.

A whole lotta cancer...

This was in no way a bad book... But it was filled with more dark “cancer” moments than I was looking for in this otherwise refreshing and often lighthearted story around the other women.

It was a fine story, but not at all what I expected.

Won’t read author again

The story was good but the language was totally uncalled for. I won’t read her again or ever recommend this book or author. She loves the F word and I found it over the top and uncalled for. Just tell the story, it was good enough

get a bottle ready, do the he-said-she-said game

this was a great book, the only thing I didn't like was all the he said Peter said she said it just seemed like it must have been a drinking game every time you heard of sewing so said you should take a shot

great book

very good book! Narrator should research the pronunciation of towns though. I grew up in the area the book takes place in. Darien is pronounced " Dairy ann" not
" darry- in". :)

a wonderful story of resilience and determination

I enjoyed every bit of this book, including the narration. 3 women each going through a major life changing ordeal. Each ordeal as different as the colors black and white but truly not different at all...

Nice carefree listen...

I was left wondering about Josh and if Melanie ever found happiness. The narration was pretty annoying with the He said, She said, Vicky said, etc...
