Story
A new patient, 24-year-old Lucy Lowell, has come to the semi-retired psychologist Alex Delaware, straight from the jury of a serial killer's grisly trial. The trial was harrowing enough, but now it's triggered a recurring and haunting dream in which Lucy, as a little girl, watches a gang of men bury a young woman's body in the woods.

Her name is Elise Freeman, and her chilling cry for help to whoever may be listening comes too late to save her. On a DVD found near her lifeless body, the emotionally and physically battered woman chronicles a year-and-a-half-long ordeal of monstrous abuse at the hands of three sadistic tormentors. But even more shocking than the lurid details is the revelation that the offenders, like their victim, are teachers at one of L.A.s most prestigious prep schools.

Brilliant, beautiful, and stunningly effective, psychologist Dr. Grace Blades has a special gift for treating troubled souls and healing tormented psyches - perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars. Only five years old when she witnessed her parents die in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her towering intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. Story
.Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed - husband, wife, two daughters, dogs. There’s something about the scene that pokes at Lucas’s cop instincts - it looks an awful lot like the kind of scorched-earth retribution he’s seen in drug killings sometimes. But this is a seriously upscale town, and the husband was an executive vice president at a big bank. It just doesn’t seem to fit.

It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

Boring
This was unnecessarily graphic in inappropriate places. It lacked excitement and was (except for the dog), a boring, drawn out, uneventful waste of time. The voice of the reader did not add much to the story. This was not a tale, but a passing acknowledgement of something that took place that could have been summed up in 1 sentence. I listened to the end, but the story never redeemed itself in my estimation.

Too much
Interesting, but too many characters and subplots for a audiobook. Not a great narration and the characters are hard to tell apart audibly. Overall, the book is a decent way to pass time, but the climax is frustrating as it's not built up to.

Bad Story
This author was recommended to me. The story had a lot of dialogue and very little action. On top of that, nothing was solved. They weren't even close. The killer is self revealed and was never suspected. I couldn't wait for this long winded story to be over.

Not The Best
I have read or listened to (or both) most if not all of the Alex Delaware series. This one falls a bit flat. The plot was okay, but I found it necessary to go back and listen to sections again because my attention wandered. There is something off about the narration. The speed is a bit fast or just not right. I think it’s the sound engineer’s work more than the narrator that is to blame. Of all the Kellerman books I have read, well, this is one of them.

A exciting story
I finished this book in three days because it hooked me from the very beginning. Though I understand the complaint about it being hard to keep track of all the characters, never the less I enjoyed the story. The narrator is fine but it is hard to tell who’s talking Milo and Alex sound very similar so the banter between the two is hard to keep track of.

Just okay.
This is the eight in the series and the weakest one. Kellerman is not great at the denouement in general but here it comes across as an unfounded deus ex machina. The best part of this book were the scenes with the dog. I look forward to better books in the future.

Best reading yet!!
I’ve become a new fan of Kellerman Alex Delaware series and am loyally working my way through the series in order the books were released. I am a huge fan of the Psychological mystery theme, with the detective/sleuth element threaded within the storyline....The storyline of this book was as good as the rest of them, but Alexander Adams had the antagonist down to a Science.....and (without giving out any spoilers) during the climax scene where the reader comes face to face with said antagonist, I was markedly surprised at how, through Adams’ expert shift in characters and their personas, I felt a most realistic terror from the words being spoken in my ears....
BRAVO KELLERMAN; BRAVO ADAMS!!
