"I'm going down now", I said to a young woman a few seconds before the darkness-my first cardiac arrest. As I returned to work as a behavioral coach, it became maddening to hear about all-consuming, everyday problems and misguided priorities while I fought to merely remain conscious. The Half-Known Life challenges conventional thinking of success, identity, and personal change. Most often, truly profound change happens following events that shake someone to their core-a car accident, death of a family member, or cardiac arrest that pulls them into a moment of clarity.

Time is running short: Discover how your “healthy” diet might be poisoning your body, and why you should act now. Fasting and plant-based diets have been linked to cell renewal, which opens up a world of possibilities when it comes to treating cancer and other chronic diseases. The fact that we buy medicine for every single thing that bothers us is a result of a decades-long marketing campaign conducted by the pharmaceutical industry. There are certain things the industry is not telling you, things that are crucial for your health and benefit.

There are a number of vitamins, minerals, plant components, and herbs that are beneficial to the immune system. Finding specific foods that boost the immune system can be complicated, because certain vitamins work best when taken with other vitamins. For instance, vitamin C, probably the most commonly recommended vitamin for infection resistance, works best when taken with calcium and magnesium. Calcium, among the other vital roles that it plays in the body, helps the cells absorb vitamin C and other nutrients more efficiently.

Very insightful!
"Back to Basics: Lost in the Herbal Wilderness" is a captivating exploration of natural remedies and traditional knowledge. The book brilliantly intertwines practical guidance on using herbs with insightful narratives, transporting readers into the heart of the wilderness. Its detailed descriptions of various plants and their medicinal properties are both educational and inspiring, encouraging a deeper connection with nature. The author's passion for herbalism shines through, offering a fresh perspective on holistic health. However, the book could benefit from more scientific backing for some claims. Overall, it's a valuable resource for anyone interested in herbal medicine and reconnecting with nature.

Extremely educational
This book is fantastic. I had no idea all the benefits in different herbs. I love how the author broke down medicinal benefits, how to use the herb & how to cook with the herb. Also going through each individual type was extremely educational. I will be buying the paperback version so that I can reference it.

Excellent Listen!
Author Peter Last, a health coach and publisher, did an excellent job demystifying the enchanting world of natural herbs and spices in his audiobook, "Back To Basics: Lost in the Herbal Wilderness". This book is a great beginner's guide to traditional healing and medicinal cooking. I had no idea about the health benefits and medicinal qualities of so many items that you can find right in your pantry!
What caught my attention right away about this book is that the narrator, Shania Lynn, is a registered nurse! This adds a sense of validation to the facts being read. My favorite chapter was the one about cinnamon. Did you know cinnamon aids in regulating blood sugar control, is an excellent antioxidant as well as an anti-inflammatory? This book taught me that you can easily sprinkle some cinnamon on oatmeal or smoothies, brew a cinnamon stick in hot water, or add some to a yummy curry.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to embark on a holistic journey!

Essential Guide to Herbs
This book is an excellent guide for beginners and experienced herbalists as well. It offers so much information about how each herb (51 of them are listed here) can assist you with digestive issues, anti-inflammatory help, skin conditions, and so much more! It painstakingly goes through each herb, identifying its healing properties, how to use it, and even grow it. A final chapter helps on how to shop for the best, freshest herbs. This is truly a back-to-basics book that I will refer to often! (This also includes a PDF when purchased). I highly recommend it as your definitive herbal resource guide.
