A CULTIVATION FANTASY

Following a life of suffering and unbearable pain an old man died with his heart full of grievances. He eagerly welcomed death, anticipating the relief it would bring. Instead he discovered that the afterlife was not what he had imagined it to be. Rather than the total annihilation he expected, he entered the river of souls. Instead of obliteration, his death gave him a chance to relive his life and amend the mistakes that had haunted him. Baird’s soul transmigrated to the body of his younger self and he found that the world of his previous childhood was more enigmatic and dangerous than he had ever known.
Armed with the experience gained from his initial life, and aided by the knowledge and extraordinary abilities he had gained during the time he spent in the river of souls, he threw himself into his new existence with an unshakeable resolve to succeed. Be it the everyday trials of a hardscrabble life, or malevolent entities concealed beneath a cloak of folklore and myth, nothing would deter him. He would use his unwavering hunger and all his skills to reshape destiny and carve out a worthier future for himself and his family.

Interesting

Story wasn't bad. Short. A lot left to be desired. A lot of information that was relevant to the story was left out until close to the end of the story. I didn't know how old the MC was when he reincarnated, time period or where he was actually at almost close to the end of the book. Quick synopsis: Guy dies from old age and realizes he's in the yellow river to be reincarnated. Goes against the flow and reincarnated into the past into his 5 year old self. There's no ultimate goal at this point. It's the 1960s in Kentucky and dude has the power of qi now. He tries to empower his family and create a better life than his previous. Almost like a slice of life mixed with some adventure. Like I said, there's a lot to be desired but has a lot of potential. There's two more continuations after this one but it'll be a while until I start the next one. Just a little underwhelmed.

Good Book

This was a great story. The nation was not as bad as I thought it would be. No it wasn’t as good as it good narrator did it, but I have definitely heard bad narrator with this. Enough with that; this was one of the strangest cultivation stories I think I ever experience. Redneck cultivators is a new one on me. It was a wonderfully new take on the cultivation story.

I was absolutely surprised at how well the virtual narration sounded. This book was a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed the story and the cultivation aspects.

The only thing I wish is the author and his books were easier to find. This book isn't listed as a series and when you click on the author's name, instead of coming up with a list of books and follow options you see a random assortment of books. I'm not sure if any of them are related to this book. I hope there is a book #2 in the future!

Great cultivation story.

I'd easily and strongly recommend to anyone wanting to scratch that Daoist "cultivator" fiction itch.

I gave it 5 stars because the story redeemed itself. You have to push through first few chapters, which I think need a total rewrite, and ignore the bad editing (if there was any, come on, no one uses legion casually as a normal word) as there are many simple writing errors that take you out of the story. But they are fewer as the story progresses.

Still, I gave it five stars because the good things are that good.

The ending is a bit brisk (which is preferable to a hyper detailed fight scene) but there is a follow up/continuation book which I am about to read and looking forward to: Fatso.

Slow boring, low energy, fan fiction quality..

Not a whole lot going on, sort of low energy and boring. Seems to skip forward and gloss over the world in a rush like a little kid telling you a story. The auto narration is fuzzy sounding and annoying. not a terrible story, just needs a rework and some depth to the story instead of just an abused kid with trashy family and parent. complaining their life is bad because they are on welfare yet.... not doing any work that would let them better their life or flourish in life or be self sufficient. Essentially sitting on a couch I'm a burning house and complaining that nobody is there to lift up the couch and carry you out... instead of standing and walking on their own. Trying to imagine magic... is not going to fix your life, only action can.
