Publisher's summary

"My life, as you will read, has taken me from one cult to another. BRAVE is the story of how I fought my way out of these cults and reclaimed my life. I want to help you do the same." (Rose McGowan)

A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto - a voice for generations

Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another, more visible cult: Hollywood.

In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.

Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f--k.

BRAVE is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto - a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.

Includes two original songs by Rose McGowan.

Look out world changes are coming

This book is long overdue. Every woman who reads this will see herself and the things she's been forced to endure just for being born female. I will warn you that this book is full of possible triggers for survivors of sexual assault. It's time we all stop and really look at the world and make some hard decisions about What we want for ourselves and our daughters. Rose is right, we need to stand and be brave.

Brave is an understatement

Hearing everything in her own words from her own voice makes this book doubly powerful. Everyone should read this book. We all need to think and act different than the way we have been conditioned to. Our voices are the ultimate power. Thank you Rose.

Brave is right!

I'm glad I listened to this book in Ms. McGowan's own voice rather than reading in on paper. I applaud her for speaking out when so many before her have not. I can only hope that others will follow her example.

Couldn’t put it down

What a brave soul. Independent mind and thinker. I hope more of Hollywood takes a stand and backs her up.

wowwwwww

I was blown away by Rose McGowan's life story and immeasurable strength. I highly recommend this to all women. I'll definitely come back to this in a few months, if only for inspiration from her last few chapters. it's an amazing call to action, for all people to stand up against the homogenized characterization of women.

Amazing writing and sincere delivery.

Loved it and sometimes I squirmed...but what a life! I'm surprised she survived her childhood.

Enlightening, sad, smart. Rose- victim to powerful

Enlightening, sad, smart. Rose has gone from victim to powerful educator. Her experiences are what many expect Hollywood to be, however it's very
Sad no one gave her any self worth so she could fight off the attacks. The perps should be held accountable always, through all time, for what they have done. I urge victims to come forward when you feel strong enough to do it. It was never your fault.

Incredible!

Everyone needs to hear this message. So many of us have a certain idea of the way things are without truly knowing. This book is like a voyage into the behind the scenes of Hollywood for women. So thrilling it’s hard to put it down.

Just wow...

I always thought Rose mcgowan was tough and rebellious back when I was a child. I just had no idea about the things she was going through at the time. This book just made me respect her even more than I ready did. She is so intelligent and aware of the world. She's made me realize things that I never really understood before. I wish more women in her position would be more honest about their thoughts and lives. It makes us regular folk feel like we are no different and gives us Role models. I can honestly say that Rose is now a role model for me. She's been through alot of pain and stress but in the end she found happiness in things she never even considered doing before. It gives the reader hope if you can relate to her. She's badass!

So True

everything she said are things that I have thought, but wasn't sure if anyone else was thinking the same thing. I can almost always tell when it's a male misogynist director trying to make a female movie
