We Don’t Have to Prove Ourselves
“But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8
Sometimes we worry that we aren’t enough—
not good enough,
not smart enough,
not talented enough,
not successful enough.
Paul knew that feeling well.
Earlier in his life, he tried to get everything right—
to be perfect,
to prove to God and everyone else that he was worthy.
But the harder he tried,
the more impossible the standards seemed.
Then something changed.
Through powerful experiences—
both personally and in community—
Paul discovered that God already loved him
and that he was welcomed by a community that had every reason not to.
He didn’t have to prove himself.
He didn’t have to earn it.
God’s love was already there.
God already loves us.
Nothing we do can make God love us more.
Nothing we fail to do can make God love us less.
We do not have to prove ourselves.
We only have to learn to live
in the love that has already been given—
and to offer that same grace
to one another.
Because the world changes
when people are loved
without having to earn it.
