A soldier’s uniform, often called a “second skin,” is a symbol of pride, honour and discipline. For this reason, these uniforms deserve a farewell that is just as dignified as the service they represent. Major General (Retd) Ashim Kohli has turned this idea into reality. Under his initiative, old Indian military uniforms are being recycled into school bags for children, along with other useful items such as masks and mobile phone holders, giving these symbols of service a meaningful second life. - सैनिक की वर्दी को अंग्रेज़ी में अक्सर ‘सेकंड स्किन’ कहा जाता है। यह वर्दी सिर्फ़ कपड़ा नहीं, बल्कि अभिमान, गौरव और अनुशासन की प्रतीक होती है। लेकिन सवाल यह उठता है कि जब यह वर्दी इस स्थिति में नहीं रहती कि उसे पहना जा सके, तब उसका क्या होता है? स्वाभाविक है कि ऐसी वर्दी की विदाई भी उतनी ही सम्मानजनक होनी चाहिए। इसी सोच को साकार कर रहे हैं मेजर जनरल (सेवानिवृत्त) आशिम कोहली। वे इन पुरानी वर्दियों को रीसायकल कर स्कूल जाने वाले छोटे बच्चों के लिए बैग्स में बदल रहे हैं। इसके अलावा इन वर्दियों से मास्क, मोबाइल होल्डर जैसी अन्य उपयोगी वस्तुएँ भी बनाई जा रही हैं।
