I am a Christ-centric mystical omnist with gnostic-resonant restorationist spirituality and a radically honest epistemology of faith. Put simply I am a Jesus-hearted seeker who reads everything but bows to One. These fifteen sermons were never meant to stay quiet. Some burst onto social media at 3 a.m. because the fire would not wait. Others were written in silence and kept like letters no one might ever open. A few still carry the taste of late-night nicotine and desperate prayer. There is no cigarette smoke in this book. I traded that for grace and a vape. But there is blood sweat metal riffs desert scrolls hospital tears and every scar I ever earned dragged to the foot of the Cross until it started singing. This is not polished religion. This is not safe. This is what happens when Mercy refuses to stay in the box we built for Her. Welcome to the Cathedral of Scars. The doors are wide open. The Light is already inside.

“ Cathedral of Scars: Fifteen Sermons from the Ruins That Became Sanctuary" is a profound and poetic collection that transforms the metaphor of brokenness into a theological framework for understanding grace, redemption, and spiritual transformation. Through fifteen carefully crafted sermons, the author invites readers into spaces where devastation—whether personal, communal, or historical—becomes the unlikely foundation for sacred encounter and healing. The genius of this work lies in its refusal to minimize suffering or rush toward easy comfort; instead, each sermon sits honestly with pain while gradually revealing how wounds, when witnessed and honored, can become the very architecture through which divine presence becomes most tangible. The title itself suggests a paradox central to Christian faith: that ruins need not be abandoned or forgotten but can be consecrated, transformed into cathedrals where people gather to remember, grieve, and ultimately discover that brokenness is not the end of the story. Whether addressing personal trauma, communal loss, historical injustice, or spiritual crisis, these sermons speak with both prophetic clarity and pastoral tenderness. For those navigating their own "ruins"—whether literal or metaphorical—or seeking to accompany others through suffering, this collection offers a spirituality grounded in reality rather than denial. It's a reminder that the most sacred spaces are often built not in spite of our scars, but through them, and that redemption is found not in erasing our wounds but in learning to read them as part of God's larger story of restoration and love.

After listening through the first time, I found myself wanting to revisit each sermon for a deeper dive in connection with the texts referenced. So I did. I've enjoyed the depth of conversations inspired by this book, especially as Alex Parkview has made it so easily relatable mixing in pop culture references that truly shift perspective when considered. The narration is done well, with appropriate emphasis and emotion. I have recommended this to several friends and will not hesitate to share it with more.

Preface: I find the general study of religion fascinating. Many questions. Few answers. So many similarities. So many differences. Alex Parkview's thoughts and middle-of-the-night philosophical musings with modern-day connections adds new and unique viewpoints onto previously known and studied verses. With a proper intro and outro, and verifiable references for each, the sermons span multiple disciplines of study, religious texts and origins. Non-preachy, but questioning and wise, the words narrated professionally by Mark Cyr are deep in meaning and layered with potential value. Overall, a mind-awakening listen certain to inspire many nights of answer-seeking dreams. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.0x.]
