That woman was me.
Growing up in a modest blue-collar town, I knew the value of hard work and so after graduating high school, I juggled two jobs to make ends meet. When Richard entered my life as manager of my part-time employer, I saw the promise of stability and a bright future in him. His college education and apparent ambition seemed like husband material in my eyes, so when he proposed, I accepted, unwittingly sealing my fate. Little did I know that Richard battled demons of his own, and he soon succumbed to the grips of alcoholism. By the time the truth emerged, we had already uprooted our lives to further his career by moving halfway across the country, leaving my support system behind.
Adrift and alone after my divorce, I grappled with despair and was frightened at an unknown future for myself and my children. Navigating the unfamiliar terrain of singlehood in a modern dating world, I traversed the complexities of dating that were transformed by the arrival of the AOL internet dating services. Determined to survive, I fought to regain a newfound resilience to find my inner strength. From the cocoon of my former life, I finally recognized my self-worth and emerged as a survivor who forged a stable and nurturing home for two spirited sons.
Join me as I recount the highs and lows of my life experiences, and weave a tapestry of laughter, heartache, and unexpected revelations on my quest for happiness and fulfillment. My story is peppered with anecdotes of motherhood and humorous encounters with suitors, along with unsolicited and unfiltered wisdom from my mother while I navigated the path toward finding new love.
