Very interesting read, the more you read the more interesting it become. The story start to get really good at the 1/4 mark. A lot of horroric detail and can become pretty scare if you get scare easily. Should be a fun read for horror story lover.

Brilliant!

I really enjoyed Ghost Signs for the way it blends eerie mystery with rich historical detail. Mason’s scepticism plays off beautifully. The whole thing feels like a séance conducted inside a history book, and I was absolutely here for it.

Haunting, Captivating Story

I’m a sucker for historical fiction with a paranormal edge, and Ghost Signs delivered exactly that. Set in 1920s San Francisco, the story drops you into a city buzzing with jazz, superstition, and grit. Mason, a skeptical sign painter, finds himself entangled with a haunted saloon and a mysterious orphan boy, and what begins as disbelief slowly unravels into something far more eerie and profound. I loved how the ghost story was layered with themes of memory, legacy, and the marks we leave behind—each faded wall ad felt like a whisper from the past.

What impressed me most was the depth of detail—both in the descriptions and in the atmosphere. The author brings California, and San Francisco in particular, vividly to life. Although I’m too young to remember the 1920s firsthand, there was still enough of that atmosphere lingering in my early years to recognize the heart and soul of the city here. The characters, too, are richly drawn.

The narration was outstanding, perfectly capturing the noir mood while keeping me hooked through every unsettling twist. But, it was the emotional depth and historical detail that made the story stand out. If you enjoy ghost stories that feel both haunting and human, I highly recommend this audiobook. One of the year’s best for me.

Loved the Grit and Sky

The way Mason hangs up high, brush in hand, reminded me of my dad, he was a roofer in the '70s. Always said the view from up there clears your head. This book took me back. It smells like brick dust and old paint. I loved it.

Fun to listen

A moody, slow-burn ghost story set against the gritty charm of 1928 San Francisco. The historical detail here is fantastic—Prohibition, Spiritualism, and old-school sign painting come alive with texture and rhythm. The bond between the skeptical Mason and the strange orphan boy adds heart, even as the pacing drags a bit in the middle. Still, the eerie atmosphere and psychological tension keep you invested. Fans of vintage noir and ghost tales will definitely appreciate this one.

Highly recommend

The supernatural stuff is just eerie enough to keep you on edge, but it’s the emotional layers and historical details that really make it stand out. If you're into ghost stories with heart and a good dose of history, I’d definitely recommend this. The audiobook narration was solid, too, easy to follow and atmospheric.

Scary! Love It

I love a good historical fiction and I love paranormal! This audiobook nailed both. Perfect about of suspense and logic. It reminded me a bit of London Seance Society, but with enough fear factor to scare your pants off.

This is one of my favorite audiobooks of the year

The story and characters are brought to life by the narration in a fantastic combination that held my attention and left me searching for time to get back to Ghost Signs every time I had to put it down. The story was so well researched and developed, leaving me feeling like I really learned a lot about this historical profession of wall dogging and the San Francisco vibe of the 20's. Now I want to go find some remains of these paintings as I know I have seen but never really thought about. The relationship between Mason and Peter is special and the game of letters and words throughout the book was awesome. It had me believing I figured out a few that were not exactly spelled out for the reader...

The narration was incredible. The characters really came to life through the author's voice. Very impressed! Can't wait for another one from this author.
