With the liberation of Chicago, Troias' new County gained a measure of security and prosperity it's never experienced before. That prosperity brings problems, though, in the form of warlike neighbors, potential allies, and new monsters. Everyone and everything demands Troias' time and attention, including the new President of the United States.

The Shift upsurge brought a new level of danger, and Troias has to meet it with his Facets and his blade, but how can he do that when his most powerful weapon might be slowly killing him?

Troias has to choose between conquest and diplomacy, between keeping control and having faith in those around him, and between protecting himself and safeguarding his people. None of his choices are good ones, and if he chooses wrong, he could unleash new horrors on the world...or even start a second Shift!
