"The History of the Saints; or, An Exposé of Joe Smith and Mormonism" is a book written by John Cook Bennett in 1842. Bennett, once an associate of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement, and a prominent figure in the early days of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), became one of its most outspoken critics after his excommunication.

The book is a controversial and critical account of the early history of the LDS Church. Bennett's work offers a scathing review of Joseph Smith and the practices of the Mormon community in Nauvoo, Illinois. He covers various topics, including the church's political and social practices, alleged secret rites, and polygamy, which was a deeply controversial issue at the time.

Bennett's book is significant in the history of the LDS Church as it is one of the earliest published accounts challenging the church's narrative and leadership. However, it's important to note that the accuracy and objectivity of Bennett's account have been a subject of debate. His work is often viewed with skepticism, as it was written in a context of personal conflict and disillusionment with the church leadership. Despite this, "The History of the Saints" remains a notable document for those studying the early history of Mormonism and its societal impact.

The narration of this book is awful. It randomly speeds up and slows down. The volume frequently changes. The reading of the text is clunky with some words being pronounced exactly as spelled instead of how they are pronounced. There’s one segment that sounds like the narrator has a frog in his throat. Some of the pauses in the narration are poorly timed. I could go on, but you get the point.

Worst narration ever

From one who was raised in the cult (the fundamentalist super-cult the content is enlightening and fascinating , aside from the preliminary self-righteous schpeel. We were warned of this in prologue. There’s little doubt that Bennett was anything other than the same kind of POS as those he testified against. But there is very good reason to believe the ‘mobster informant’. The reading is absolute crap, however. Including awkward and nonsensical pauses, weird inflections on random words, and many mispronounced words, even very basic words. I suppose this is to reflect misspellings in the text or something , but it’s just stupid and sounds terrible. That and reading every abbreviation exactly as written. Again, stupid and sounds terrible. The names are also mispronounced. It would require very little research to get this right. Clearly very little for-thought, research, or preparation was done prior to this piss-poor performance. To top it off, it randomly speeds up and lapses into super poor audio. This needs re-read. As it is, it’s simply horrible audio
