For as long as she can remember Millie has had her limits. Staying within them keeps her isolated, safe; helps her to cope. Why then have they started to feel so stifling? Why is her loneliness starting to rival her fears?
When she watches him she wishes she could be normal; she wishes she could be like the people he interacts with so seamlessly. Pavlos Martakis is her complete and total opposite: physically intimidating, likable, naturally attractive, extremely confident, sexually promiscuous: the most uninhibited, charming, outgoing and free person she has ever encountered in her life. He fascinates Millie; thrills and intimidates her in equal measure.
But, as the culprit behind the invention of her nickname Nuclear Winter, Millie knows that if Pav feels anything for her it is more than likely contempt. Cold, boring, robotic: that is how the rest of the hospital sees her. So she can safely watch him from afar. He would never notice her…would he?
This book is a full-length, standalone contemporary romance of approximately 90,000 words.

Millie isn’t cold; she’s surviving. Labeled “Nuclear Winter” by her coworkers, she’s built walls so high no one’s ever bothered to look over them. But behind that sharp exterior is a brilliant, anxious, deeply lonely woman shaped by a childhood of emotional abuse and a life spent controlling every variable just to feel safe.
Then Pavlos shows up...loud, warm, stubbornly Greek and refuses to back off. What starts as annoyance turns into fascination. With gentle persistence, he gives Millie what she’s never had: safety, patience, and love that asks for nothing but her whole, messy self.
Watching her open up...bit by bit...was stunning. She doesn’t just fall in love; she rises in it. And Pav, bless him, he’s imperfect in all the right ways, with a wild family who embraces her...ahhh!
The slap heard round the world...IYKYK
And then there’s Rosie...sweet, spirited Rosie. A child who slips under Millie’s defenses with innocent ease. Their bond is nothing short of magical. Rosie doesn’t judge, doesn’t prod, she just loves Millie in the purest, most honest way. Their connection added such heart to the story, and watching Millie soften and open up through her relationship with Rosie was absolutely beautiful.
This story is about so much more than romance. It’s about being seen. About healing in your own time. About finding family in places you never expected. It’s a slow, tender unraveling of a woman who thought her limits kept her safe...until love showed her they were really keeping her small.
Absolutely worth the read.
Neurodivergent awareness.
