Enter a frighteningly familiar dystopian world with the first book of a new series from the author of Falling with Folded Wings and Victor of Tucson.

In the year 2107, the world has both made astounding leaps forward and reduced humanity to its most basic existence. While the megacorps and those who rule them enjoy lives of extraordinary comfort and ease, most people barely scrape by, doing whatever they can to keep going.

Juliet Bianchi is one of the latter. She works cutting metal in a scrapyard and doesn't have much to show for it except for a small group of equally bereft, fiercely loyal friends. Still, she maintains a bright disposition, possessing more hope and optimism than anyone would expect her to—and she's going to need it . . .

When Juliet stumbles upon what looks like a botched kidnapping, the victim dispatches his abductors and lives just long enough to give her a stolen AI chip. This gift soon transforms Juliet from a worker bee into a killer queen. Armed with far more power and skill than she can comprehend—let alone control—she finds herself drawn into a shadowy world where survival itself counts as victory.

Juliet has never been one to push people around. But when it comes to fighting the corrupt corporate overlords, she's more than happy to push back.

This is the only novel, apart from older things like Neuromancer, I've been able to find. It does cyberpunk correctly, especially compared to other attempts, such as the legit Cyberpunk 2077 novels. If you're a fan of the Tabletop cyberpunk, 2077, or Edge runner, this is a good recommendation for you. It does have elements of LitRPG, but there are no exhaustive stat sheets. Every once in a while, the AI will show a sort of medical record for the main character, and even the stats are different than usual, fitting more with the setting of the story. In my personal opinion, it could use more explicit material, but all-in-all... Definitely a must-read if you want to see the future of cyberpunk fiction!

An ACTUAL Cyberpunk Novel!! Astounding!!

Plot is Wm Gibson meets Tarantino Criminal origin story. Reader performance is pitch perfect for the protagonist. I was surprised how good the whole thing worked together and want more.

Cyberpunk, but accessible, and fun.

Plum does a great job building a Cyberpunk world that feels more natural and real than many I have seen before, the MC is likeable but reasonably flawed making her change and grow a much more interesting story. Well worth the color and listen. Suzy Jackson is one of my favorite female narrators, she does a great job

Excellent Cyberpunk

I picked this up to pass the time, expecting a mediocre but entertaining diversion. What I got was an exciting, intense thriller with incredibly endearing characters and a story that had me enthralled almost immediately. It’s got the action, suspense and chrome of Total Recall (the 1990 original, admittedly one of my favorite movies) blended with a very surprising amount of heart and character development that had me plowing through all five books as soon as I possibly could. The audio version is beautifully narrated by Suzy Jackson, who plays the characters with a charm, variety and personality akin to Cherami Leigh. Any sci-fi/action-adventure fan should be immediately hooked. Highly recommended!

Gripping story with excellent narration
