Publisher's summary

Put the kettle on and discover an utterly charming new cozy murder mystery set in a sleepy English seaside town.

Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead.

Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it.

When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

With plenty of tea and cake along the way, and despite squabbles with their rivals, the Cats Alliance across the street, the Charity Shop Detective Agency is born.

Fans of The Thursday Murder Club, Janice Hallett, Simon Brett, Ian Moore, and Sarah Yarwood-Lovett will adore this exciting new talent in cozy crime.

Incredulous

These characters are caricatures. Even their names are annoying. The plot is silly. The storytelling focuses on inane exchanges. The only thing I liked about this book is the dog. The narration was decent, however, and I think the reader did the best with the material she had.

Fun romp

With a bit of suspended belief about circumstances that just happened to move the plot forward, I thoroughly enjoy following the adventures (and misadventures) of the enthusiastic yet imperfect ladies of the Charity Shop Detective Agency.

Enjoyable!

It was an interesting crime that kept me guessing to the end. It was occasionally a bit slow but the characters were all likeable and the story pays off. I would listen to more of these books.

Fun

Sweet older group of ladies solving crime. Not a totally new concept, but is anything new under the sun? Engaging narration.

Great light read

Wonderful and endearing characters, good mystery overall. Like the narrator. Please do not change this. Will continue to follow new books in the series.

Wonderful new series!

At least I hope it's going to be a series. Please write more books about the Charity Shop Detective Agency! Engaging characters, had me guessing right to the end. Also hoping Sophie gets some karmic justice in the future. Loved this book, great narrator.

Derivative

The story and the characters are too much like “The Thursday Murder Club, but overall a weaker effort. However, if you like Oscan’s series and you want more like it, this novel will be what you are looking for. Personally, I’ll wait for his next novel.

A poor attempt to traffic on Richard Osman

In my opinion a poor attempt to traffic on Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series, including the cover art for the book. The narrator gave it a good go, but the three protagonists are mere caricatures of real people and one in particular is extremely annoying. The "creating" of the "agency" is harebrained and ill-conceived--schoolyard stuff. Don't waste your time.

Lighthearted Fun

This cozy centers around 3 older and, of course, quirky ladies who work together at a Charity shop who place themselves into a murder investigation after finding a bloody knife in a donation box. Their background in sleuthing comes from the television shows they watch and the books they read. An enjoyable start to a series.
