Publisher's summary

In the Highlands of Scotland lies the Hole, a famed passageway under the town of Bethel where hundreds have vanished. After years of ignored recovery wishes, the Hole’s ownership has passed to Elisabeth Wingate.

A former child star and British fashion mogul, Elisabeth wants to redeem her scandalous, reckless life. She agrees to finance an expedition to retrieve the legion of bodies that have accumulated over the years, but there’s only one catch: She wants to venture alongside the caving team.

But they’re not alone down there....

Everything goes wrong in the darkness. Elisabeth is split from her group, navigating a labyrinth of caves and inexplicable rooms of carved stone. With limited supplies and a failing light, she must reunite with her group. And somehow escape the creatures in the dark before they claim another victim Under Bethel....

Mullins returns to dreadful horror in this tense, creepy, and atmospheric tale of the shadowy things that linger in the deepest chasms of the world....

Cool mythology

Had this been an actual book that I read, I probably would have waited this higher. I think my issue was with the narrator, who wasn’t bad, but her voices were a bit annoying.

I’ve been to Scotland and Ireland, so I understand that there can be some heavy brogue going on, but hers took away from the story. There were times when I had to rewind a bit but it wasn’t terrible

The story was very slow to kick off, but once everyone got into the cave, that’s where everything went really good, and at a fast pace. What also helped me to hang on the Small stories from the past linked to the cave that tied everything together. All in all it was a pretty good story.
Cheers

an absolute masterpiece in the horror genre!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finished Under Bethel by Hubert L. Mullins today and WOW! This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites. This is the 3rd book of his I've listened to and all 3 of them have been OUTSTANDING!

This book touches on several subjects. If you are scared of dark places, caves, spiders, (and Greek gods??) this book is for you!

I really enjoyed the story but the narration was first class. The narrator was easily understood even when she was hitting those heavy Scottish accents.

I literally can't praise this author or his work enough. This is very mild horror. Just enough to give you some slight unease and cringiness but don't be afraid to tackle this one even if you don't think you are a fan of horror. It has superb story telling and a pace fast enough to keep you wanting more the entire way through.

A very easy 5 stars.

Don't Judge a Book by It's ... Narration?

I should have read the book first. The narrator's feeble attempts at different accents and colloquialism detract from the storyline. Horribly, but that's not the 'horror' the author is attempting to achieve and is why I did not rate the story. I'll reserve judgment on the story until I actually read the book.

drags on a bit.

a neat idea dulled by too many characters and too many pages.

the setup got my hopes up, good atmosphere, some local lore and I think caves are way underutilized in horror.

but it gets old real fast. the author has no idea how caving works so a lot of finer plot points were illogical. the story goes on for so long any tension that it managed to create slowly dissipates and made the end a chore to finish. most of all though the prose is just.. meh. had I read the physical book I do not think I would have finished it but on a long drive it did the trick. 2.5 stars.

A must read!!

Under Bethel was so well written. Kept me on the edge of my seat, with such vivid descriptions. I could see every character and the architecture of the cave. This checks all the boxes a complete thriller. I absolutely loved the mention of my hometown so unexpectedly. Lots of twists and turns, thank you so much for a great book. Love the cover image and narrator also did phenomenally with all the characters and accents.

His best book yet!

I've been waiting for the release of this book since it was announced. Hubert L. Mullins crafts a very engaging story that plays on many of our fears of both the dark and the creepy crawly things that lurk within. Under Bethel made me hate having to stop this audiobook to go into work! I listened to the entire book in just two sittings. The closer we got to the end of the book (the narrator and I), the more I dreaded knowing that it was ending. However, the end of this book is hands down one of my favorite endings ever! do yourself a favor and listen to this book! Fantastically written and fantastically performed! Bravo Mr Mullins!

Interesting twist

Part is obvious early on, but gives you a sucker punch of a twist in the end.
