Publisher's summary

Danger lurks behind every spotlight in comedian David Studebaker’s laugh-out-loud debut mystery novel. Worlds collide when Lance Ford, San Francisco’s favorite playwright and yoga instructor, finds out Emmy, his cop wife, is pregnant, quitting the force and moving them in with her parents in Dallas, Texas.

Upon arrival in this foreign land, Lance must contend with a slew of dangerous characters, including Emmy’s brutish older brother, a gun-toting airline magnate, a psychopathic high school principal, a murderous former supermodel, and her socially inept, fame-obsessed husband who bribes Lance to join his theater club.

When Emmy is hired by her godfather, the aforementioned airline magnate, to investigate mysterious activity at his company, Lance is offered a large sum of money to direct the theater club’s first public performance. Unbeknownst to the couple, their seemingly unrelated gigs have a murderous link, one that will make them targets of a shadowy secret society and force them down a life-threatening path of betrayal, mayhem, and grace.

Hollywood meets Dallas

Lone Star Lance is an entertaining story and a superb listening experience. The author went above and beyond narrating the story, even bringing the train conductor’s voice to life. Lone Star Lance is a much needed feel good story especially after the events of the last few years. Definitely appreciate the break from reality! :)

Adventure and Intrique are boundless

Lance Ford is a renowned Yoga instructor and playwright who has just discovered his wife is pregnant, and she quit the police force. As if that was not enough, he discovers they are moving in with her parents! The move from California to Texas is truly a culture shock for Lance but nothing compared to becoming involved in his wife’s private investigator business. In between helping his wife and getting on the good side of his parents-in-law, he finds himself directing a play comprised of men from a secret gun club! This mystery involves, fraud, murder, and so much more!

David Studebaker is both author and narrator. As an author, Studebaker has created intriguing characters, strong storylines with plot twists, and a mystery that leaves the listeners wanting more. Each character is richly described and participates in authentic dialogue and intrigue. The story is action-packed with intrigue and mystery.

As the narrator, Studebaker gives a smooth performance. His voices are not overdone, but rather subtle in tone differences and for some a slight accent. As a listener, the subtle voice inflections enable the listener to distinguish between characters easily.

In listening to this story, I found myself laughing out loud at times and others gasping. One piece that stands out is the Willie Nelson look-a-like that was not only to play the postman but also the wife – however when he was told his role was only that of a postman was hilarious and curious! The descriptions of this character playing both a postman and a wife set off a laughing fit. Not because he was upset as much as how afraid the other guys were of him!

This is a highly entertaining book. If you enjoy mysteries, this is one I would highly recommend.
