Chapter Three: Sleep Deprivation

To my dear busy parents,

Congratulations! Your baby is finally in your arms. However, in addition to the excitement and joy you are feeling, you are probably exhausted from the sleepless nights.

You know what I mean: these long nights are, literally, sleepless. In the best-case scenario, you sleep in between feedings and diaper changes. Though I call it a best-case scenario, in practice this sleep schedule will burn you out pretty fast. And yes, you still have to work. Even if you are a stay-at-home parent, your daily schedule will be packed full of things to do. Oftentimes in addition to taking care of a new baby, you have to tend to your other children, their schools, and after-school activities; complete the housekeeping and cooking, and do tons of laundry (be prepared for tons of trips to the laundry room!). Being able to "run the show" when you haven't had any rest and don't have any energy is not just exhausting, but also harmful to your overall health.
