“In Dahlia Lithwick’s urgent, engaging Lady Justice, Dobbs serves as a devastating bookend to a story that begins in hope.” Boston Globe

Dahlia Lithwick, one of the nation’s foremost legal commentators, tells the gripping and heroic story of the women lawyers who fought the racism, sexism, and xenophobia of Donald Trump’s presidency—and won

In the immediate aftershocks of Donald Trump’s victory over Hilary Clinton in 2016, women lawyers across the country, independently of one another, sprang into action. They were determined not to stand by while the Republican party did everything in their power to pursue devastating and often retrograde policies.

In Lady Justice, Dahlia Lithwick, one of the nation’s foremost legal commentators, illuminates these many heroes of the Trump years. From Sally Yates and Becca Heller, who fought the Muslim travel ban, to Roberta Kaplan, who sued the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, to Stacey Abrams, who worked to protect the voting rights of millions of Georgians, Lithwick dramatizes in thrilling detail the women lawyers who worked tirelessly to hold the line against the most chaotic presidency in living memory.

A celebration of the legal ingenuity and indefatigable spirit of the women whose work all too often went unrecognized at the time, Lady Justice is destined to be treasured and passed from hand to hand for generations to come.

Lithwick has managed to make me incredibly mad at many politicians, but also amazingly proud of and confident in women who take up the law. I couldn’t stop listening.

I love how Dalia shares the origin story for this being a little pink book about the law. This book packs a punch as it navigate through both history and the law. This book is for everyone. Loved it!

So glad I listened to this! So much I didn’t know and so much I needed to hear.

Every Woman Needs This

Every woman who is stressed and depressed by the direction in which the GOP and their life-stomping, partisan Supreme Court majority is herding us, should read or listen to this book. It tells what women have done, what they are doing, what they can do to defend women’s rights against those who don’t believe women should have rights at all. Beautifully written, thought provoking, and edifying, when I finish with this review I intend to listen to it again from the beginning. I don’t want to miss a single sentence of a single story about the women who not only stand against the injustice of the inequality that women, people of color, native Americans, the poor, the disabled, and the LGBTQ community live under, but who actively—and often with resounding success—battle to make those lives more equal and certainly better than the kind of stunted existence that the narrow-minded GOP and their multitude of draconian-minded men want to force on them. Thank you, Dahlia Lithwick!

A good book to Wake Up with

I liked it! Each chapter chronicles a different legal hero and explains how the lawyers saved democracy from Trump. I feel like this would be a good present for the friend who you would take with you to the women’s March.

Great stories well told
