Ten years later, a lawyer from Texas would tell her that the same problem was about to blow up the financial markets: Wall Street brokers are using short sales and failures to deliver to grab the assets of American entrepreneurs.

This is a cautionary tale. What started as a regulatory failure turned into a regulatory crisis. Shareholder democracy is in shambles. The institutions that were established to correct a problem of trade settlement failures have instead exacerbated the problem. Global financial markets may not survive what comes next.

Explains the growing sense of unease and distrust I've been feeling regarding our investment portfolio. Right in line with "The Great Taking" by Webb.
Getting the heck out of the stock & bond markets seems the best answer as it appears the average invester has no way to invest there safely. Like so many longstanding institutions corruption runs too deep in the financial sector to even know where to start in attempting to repair it. Sad state.

good book, bad recording

The end of chapter 10 cuts off early. Other than that this was an excellent story that need more attention in the public eye.
